@aliciapdx:  Girl, you will look awesome in any of the dresses you posted. My guess is your coworkers are just insensitive jerks. Go try them on, and make your own decision.

So, when I was measured for my mermaid style dress, I was told I was a size 8 for the bust and waist and a size 14 (fourt-fricken-teen) around the hips.

Nertz to the idea that only certain body types can wear a mermaid.

I had the same thing said to me! I was all happy showing my choice to a co-worker and she said: YOU are wearing a mermaid dress?????????????????????????????

It crushed me! But you know what, it is YOUR day, so go along with what YOU want and feel beautiful and comfortable in! Other people’s opinions don’t matter!

I’m a pear and I’m 136lbs.

The sales lady told me I’d only suit A-Line because of my shape and brought out the Augusta Jones Ali as an example of a dress that WOULDN’T look good on me.

When she saw me in it, she couldn’t stop saying “but.. but.. but… this SHOULDN’T look good!!”

It was an amazing dress. I loved it, but it wasn’t the one I went for because I was afraid of showing tummy (I get bloated quite a lot).

Still, this was such an amazing dress and I’m so glad she gave it to me to try on because it really does go to show that even a dress that shouldn’t work, sometimes does.

And trust your own judgement! xx

Unfortunately, people are silly. Or mean.

Though I am tall-ish (5 foot 7) I have  a curvy body shape. When I went wedding dress shopping, I was probably at my biggest and have a really ‘messed-up’ shape. Im kinda hour-glass/pear. At some points I have had a 27 inch waist and 44 hips. This means it is incredibly hard to buy anythign to fit. I have to dart trousers in at the waist, I have to get much larger sizes to fit my bum and wear belts/ take the waists in to make dresses fit etc. I often look a mess, liek a bag-woman due to my disgusting shape….hang…wait a minute.. I’m a woman! I have boobs and a bum and a little waist! I look good! My bigger, apple-shaped friends look good, my big-boobed friends look good, my slim-as-a-pin friends look good!

I know we all get momentary (or longer!) freak-outs with our looks but please don’t let these women get to you. I have more unproportionate proportions than you and I look BETTER in those type of dresses, I almost feel it’s a CRIME not showing my shape. I love a curvy girl (prehaps best, If I’m being honest!) and I know you’ll look ace on your wedding day weather youre 125 like the pic in the black dress or a slightly more soft 150. I bet your H2B LOVES your body! 🙂

As an aside I LOVE that pinky/creamy picked-up hem dress. 🙂 LUSH! Good luck with the weight-loosing, you deserve to feel happy and be happy, just don’t listen to these women. You know what looks good on you! x
