Instead of favors, my fiance and I are following the recent (and wonderful, I think!) trend of donating to a charity. What we were thinking about doing is donating to an organization like World Vision to support a child for 6 months. I like the idea of it being specific-“In lieu of favors, THIS child will be supported THIS way for THIS long”, and we were talking about maybe having small cards with the child’s “profile” on one side. But my mom brought up a good point-would having a picture of an impoverished child maybe be a bit too much of a downer for this particular event? Obviously it’s great to get people interested and pulled in, and the reminder that while we have this, some have nothing, is great-but would seeing the face of a suffering child be a bit extreme for such a happy day?

i like the idea, but do you have a wedding website you could put the picture on? to keep the event itself focused on you, and maybe you could post a bit about why it is important to you etc.

I think if you include pictures it will bring in that uncomfortable feeling you get when the commercials come on tv. I commend you for such an awesome idea because that’s wonderful but I think the text or even an announcement could help too!

I think just sort of explaining the charity and why you picked it is plenty!

Stick to the words. The picture would be a bit too much, IMO.

Stick to words but perhaps there is a website you can direct them to to “meet” the child you are sponsoring. I would want to see the child on my own time. I think that would be a nice compromise, no sad pic but if you are interested check the website out.

Maybe do a photo of Africa (not necessarily of the child) & explain the charity & why instead. Its an awesome idea thou, good for you 🙂
