So, most of our wedding guests, or a large majority that we’re inviting, are not from the area. Originally, we were going to have our ceremony/reception venue as a hotel option (since it’s a small inn), and have a cheaper alternative for people to stay in. I found out yesterday though that we can only block a book of rooms the night of our wedding, which is a Sunday, and wouldn’t be very helpful for the people coming in earlier, which I’d imagine many would.
So now, our “backup” cheaper hotel is the hotel with the block of rooms. Initially, we were choosing between two, though it now appears that we have no choice due to the large number of rooms we need. (Approximately 75, which seems almost ridiculous to type. But, I guess that’s what happens when all the cool people live in different states). The place we’re thinking was quoted at $109 a night, which seems a bit high. Though, my fiance was the one to call, and asked about the price for the weekends (I’m thinking it would be nice to have the block available Thurs-Mon, which I think MAY be a bit cheaper).
But, I don’t know…I think the time of the year and the area, that may have to be the average price. But…is that too expensive? Or can I make it sound better, if not to myself at least, by saying that we’re sending STD out hopefully next week (more than 6 months in advance) which will have our website on it which will be listing the hotel cost?

Is this hotel in NYC? If so, that’s an AMAZING price!!! Our hotel rooms in Connecticut are $139/night and I thought that was a good deal! I’m going to a bunch of weddings this summer and paying between $120-200/night for those hotel stays.

I think 109 is reasonable.

our hotel – at the special rate for guests at our wedding was 109 – i thought it was pretty high too especially at a “special rate” but no one seemed to say anything and everyone blocked rooms anyway

$109 for a hotel anywhere is pretty cheap!!

Is this in Queens / NYC? It doesn’t sound high to me. I usually expect to pay about $100/night pretty much anywhere in the US for a hotel room these days. And, if it is too expensive for anyone, they can always try to find another place to stay…I certainly have done that for weddings where the blocked rooms were out of my price range.

I think $109 is extremely reasonable. I wouldn’t complain at all if I had to pay for that for a wedding.

$109 a night sounds extremely reasonable, especially if the wedding is in NYC!

in all honesty it depends on the place, the ammenities the hotel has ect. 109 doesnt sound too bad, there are always going to be cheaper hotels, but the question is do you really want your family and friends in a sleeze cheap hotel or have them pay the 40 dollars more a night and get a nice hotel and not just one guys bring their one night stands to. the guests will probably find that 109 is reasonable, i would. if someone makes that big a deal about price they might just decide to stay 2 nights instead of 3.
bottom line, 109 is very reasonable.

Thanks everyone for such quick responses! The wedding is actually about an hour outside NYC, at Bear Mountain State Park. The hotel is about 20-30 minutes away, and I think is actually pretty nice. It’s a large chain hotel, though it feels not so chain like.
And I’m glad that this is pretty average. And, yeah I guess if it is too much, people can choose to look elsewhere.
