Anyone go without makeup most of the time or a very natural look when you do where it (so it just covers skin blemishes, unevenness, etc)?? That’s me..I’m very natural: bare minerals powder, bronzer & finishing powder, a lil mascara/eye shadow (if my allergies arenn’t acting up) and MAYBE lip gloss (never lipstick..I’ve owned maybe 1-2 tubes in my life & they were freebies). That’s my day to day look.
Whenever I’ve had my make up done for weddings I’ve been in as a bridesmaid or special occasion it is just so heavy and too much for me…I look at pics and am not a fan. I’m not sure what to do besides go and do a trial but if I don’t like one, I have to keep trying and paying – I definitely want to do that for my engagement photos but I want that to be nice/natural too.
Also, HAIR! My aunt is a hair stylist at a very upscale salon out of state..very talented. She’s done my sister’s hair for her weddings (yes..2, she got divorced & remarried) and I think my hair a time or two as well. However, my hair is so fine (my sister’s is thick) and she likes some kind of outlandish things..again, me, I”m girl next door look. I know she’d be hurt if I do not allow her to do my hair, thoughts here? Just provide some pics, ask her to show me what she’s thinking and compromise? I do not know if I’ll see her until she’s in town a day or 2 before the wedding, so I might just have to go with it (usually this has been fine for weddings I’ve been in but this time, this is my wedding day). Also, I guess I’ll have to find/bring in a stylist for my bridesmaids..as I do not expect her to do their hair. P.P.S. That includes my sister…her hair is SO thick and long, it takes forever…once she got her hair done by my aunt for my h.s. graduation and my aunt ran out of time and did not get to mine. I have a 2 pm wedding, I kind of want her by my side durings pics, etc to fix it and not doing my sister’s..ha

I am not planning on scouring magazines looking for my “natural” look. I am going to give my MUA a photo of me, showing her how I do my make up daily, and just tell her to lightly exaggerate the look and make it stick all day. I want to look like me, but I also want to make sure I’m not washed out in photos at the same time.
As for your hair…. there is no “compromise.” You are the bride. Show her photos in advance, and have her do a trial. If she can’t do it, then yea, find someone else. You don’t need a bad hair day on your wedding day!!

Find pictures of makeup that you like and take it to show as an example. Talk to the MUA about your concerns. Go in wearing your full normal makeup so she can see it, don’t go in with a bare face. You can wash it off before the trial starts. She should listen to what you want!

I only wear foundation, cover up, and mascara on a regular day… thus, very natural look. For my wedding day makeup, I went to Sephora and had a “Custom Makeover,” which consisted of them teaching me how to do my own makeup for my wedding day as long as I buy $50 worth of product. I easily spent $120, but I LOVED my wedding day make-up. I put on much more than usual, however, the only place I used more on was my eyes (primer and eyeshadow) and lipstick. I would do it again, hands down.

For the makeup trials, you don’t have to keep paying. First, find a picture of a natural look you like. Then hold up a mirror as they are working. If you don’t like something, tell them to fix it then. One of my best friends lives in Chicago while I live in Texas. She is very simple and wears absolutely no make-up……not even lip gloss. As she was doing her trial, she stopped, sent me a quick picture and asked what to change. At first the make-up was entirely too heavy. We had them lighten the coverage of the foundation. Then the eyeshadow was too dark. We had them change the color on the tear ducks and overall blend the eyeshadow out more. Then, the lipstick was too bright. We had them go a few shades darker and everything turned out perfect! We did all of this by text.

Also, I have very thin hair… I never had a hair trial, but I went in and they made my hair look amazing. I would say, have a hair trial and don’t be timid. However, if she’s experience in doing hair for special occasions, she’s likely worked with all types of hair. Here was mine on my wedding day:
ETA: I was very nervous as she was doing my hair with all the hairspray and teasing… I am NOT used to it. But I let her do her thing (after showing her pictures of what I want), and I was more than happy.
