I work in admissions a hospital, part-time around averaging 25 hrs. a week, or more depending if I have to cover for someone else. I work 3 days, almost 10 hrs each day. I was asking for more hours and my director asked me if I would like to work in a different department as a tech, which has completely different tasks than what I normally do and I accepted. The only thing is, is that I would be working on the weekends and I still wouldn’t be promoted as a full-time employee. I did training today and it went well, but it tuckered me out more than I thought..and with house hunting coming up next month on the weekends and coordinating my destination wedding, I’m wondering if I made the wrong decision on accepting it…My fiance also wasn’t too happy either. My co-worker in the admission department also didn’t want me working in the other department because it’s starting to get really busy. Just don’t know what to do 🙁

i think you should do what will be best for you now but also in the future (advancement, full time, benefits, etc). do you see yourself having a potential career here? sometimes you need to work a lot and sacrifice a lot to get ahead. don’t let anyone or anything stand in the way of that.

@mypinkshoes: I would definitely love to keep working at the hospital, but I know I won’t be able to keep working in both departments. I just didn’t realize how much of a kink it would put in my schedule either, as I use the weekends for dr. appts, house hunting, coordinating, and other errands. Fiance also feels like their giving me the short-end of the stick on asking me to work more but not giving full-time benefits. I saw my desk in Admissions before I left and it’s covered in paperwork for me to do next week @

@mypinkshoes: No, I just finished, but parents keep bugging me to go back. Not planning to take anymore classes till I finish paying off at least some student loans

@renee01: if i had student loans and debt, i’d be working my butt off to pay them off. working a lot now will save you tons in the future. trust me. this is coming from someone who used to work 60-70 hours/week. work while it’s available for you.
