I think it’s fine. As long as they’re still in elementary school, they’re still kids and can perform functions normally assigned to kids at weddings.

@floridabride12: I know what you mean. My ring bearer will be 10.5 at my wedding, but he’s my cousin’s kid, I’m very close to her and I want her kids in my wedding (her 4.5-year old daughter will be my flower girl).

I was a flower girl when I was 8. That’s definitely young enough. All that matters is that it’s important to you to have him participate.

I don’t think hes too old at all, plus you know hes old enough to not lose the rings or to possibly throw a temper down the aisle

He’s a perfect age.  He will do the job well.  Smaller kids sometimes don’t want to walk down the isle, get scared.  He will be great!!!

I have 1 nephew (will be 8 1/2) and 5 nieces (will be 9, 7, 7, and 3).  I asked my oldest niece and my nephew if they would rather be a flower girl/ring bearer or a junior bridesmaid/junior groomsman.  Both wanted to be the junior BM/GM.  I’m lucky that my mom sews since she’s making all the girls’ dresses.  The only difference is that my Jr Bridesmaid or Best Man will be in the same color as my BM’s and the FG’s will be in white.  Otherwise, it’ll be the same pattern.  My nephew will be in a suit regardless of whether or not he’s the Ring Bearer or Jr Groomsmen.  So really, it’s just a name thing.  I would recommend asking him what he’d rather be.  You might be surprised at his answer!  My nephew even wants to know if he gets to keep the suit.  He’s too cute.

My nephew will be 7 at that point. I haven’t decided if he’ll be ring bearer or junior groomsmen. Fiance insists we need a “ring boy” so I think that’s what he’ll be. His 9 year old sister is a junior bridesmaid and I have two flower girls. I’ll have the two flower girls walk down the aisle together, and then the junior bridesmaid and ring bearer walk down the aisle together.

If you’re looking for another job for him, you could have him pass out programs.

My daughter will be 8 when we get married and she’s going to be our flower girl.  I don’t think it’s too old at all!  🙂

If it helps, I was 18 for my brother’s wedding and *I* was the ring bearer!  There were no other kids in the families and I think it was more my brother’s idea than my SIL’s.

My son will be 9 at my wedding and he’s going to be my ring bearer.  My nephews (8 & 5) are going to be “escorts” for my daughter (5) and my FSIL’s daughter (4).

I completely agree with PP that he is not to old to be the ring bearer.
