texaslemon:  no real advice, but you’re spot on with the sleep thing. My son is almost 3, and I haven’t slept since the middle of my pregnancy. Seriously. Almost 4 years. No full nights of sleep.

You’re really young still, you just need to wait and enjoy being selfish while you can.  Maybe you’ll be 30 and decide you’re ready for kids, or maybe not.  You don’t have to make any final decisions.  I was definitely too selfish and not ready for kids at 25 but I do have one now at 30 and overall it’s pretty great.  But I got to spend all of my 20s doing whatever I wanted and having very little responsibility, so it was nice to enjoy that.

I wish that we women wouldn’t label the quite reasonable desires to be able to get adequate sleep, to control our discretionary spending, and to maximize our freedom to move as “selfish” ones, since the word selfish has such a negative and judgmental connotation.  The fact that I like to stay up late and sleep in does not make me a morally deficient or stingy being.

OP, I stand with the PPs who recommend ensuring that your relationship with your spouse is on solid ground and just taking your time more generally before considering having a baby.
