My fiance and I really want to use this, http://www.amazon.com/Epic-Products-91-037-Wine-Barrel/dp/B002QCBY1E/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1329759008&sr=1-1, as our card box, but I am worried it will be too small. The dimensions are 6.5″ x 10″. I also don’t know how large the opening is, so I’m guessing it won’t work. We are only inviting around 75 people.
I don’t really want to use a “cake” looking card box. I’d like to figure something out that would stick with our fall/wine theme. We were first trying to find a mini wine barrel. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The link didn’t work for me. Are you talking about the wine barrel cork cage?
It doesn’t look like it has an opening at all to me. They say you drop the corks in the top.
Also the dimensions would be taken at the widest and tallest points. I think you might find it a bit small although it certainly goes well with your theme.
You can get a wine crate off ebay and cut a hole in the lid

You could also get a barrel planter and have a wooden lid cut for it from plywood.

@julies1949: That’s such a great idea 🙂 I was thinking that the one OP described might be a bit too small.

@julies1949: Thanks for your suggestions. I never thought of looking for a planter, then after the wedding we could prob just take the top off and use it.

The planter is a super cute idea! We’re getting married in Livermore wine country in October with a winery theme and we got a wooden slat wine box for ours and stapled black tule on the inside so none of the cards come out the slats.
