First time posting on the pregnancy boards (!!!!)😀
I got my BFP yesterday, and took like 5 more tests because I didn’t believe it! One of the ones I took is the clear blue week’s estimator which said 1-2. I called my doctor and they said they do an 8wk ultrasound, 10wk appt and 12 wk appt. I got those scheduled! But I got to thinking…my 8wk is scheduled for Nov 7 because they took my last period date of Sept 9. My cycle was irregular after getting Mirena removed and I wasn’t temping so I don’t know when I ovulated. But if I ovulated 1-2 weeks ago, wouldn’t I only be 5-6 weeks on the 7th? I don’t want to waste my time at the doctor when they won’t be able to see anything!
We only BD twice because Darling Husband has been out of town during the week–Sep 30 & Oct 9. So I’ve got a good idea when I ovulated (probably between 30-3) since this last week would probably be WAY too soon. So I don’t know if that helps.
Sorry for the long post, this is just all so new to me! And I can’t ask any friends or family as they don’t know yet!

Maybe my math is horribly wrong, but I think you would be around 7 weeks on November 7th if you ovulated a week or two ago? Pregnancies are dated not from when you actually conceived, but when your last period was… so assuming you ovulated two weeks ago, and assuming your period was regular-ish and was two weeks before that… that’s 4 weeks… and you tack on the three weeks-ish from now until November 7th and it seems like that’s 7 weeks?
But to be safe maybe call your doctor back and ask. 🙂 When I scheduled my appointment, I told them I wasn’t sure when my last period was, but I knew what day I ovulated since I had been tracking that with ovulation tests, so they scheduled me out for my first ultrasound based on that date!

dietfrog : Thank you! No, I don’t think your math is horribly wrong, but I wasn’t thinking of it that way! You’re right, by those calculations I would be 7 weeks as I would be 4 weeks right now. Makes perfect sense when you put it that way. I think I will probably be fine doing my u/s then…at any rate it’ll be nice to actually see my doctor and check in! Thanks again 🙂

MrsBubsy : My OB has told me they can start doing ultrasounds as long as the HCG is over 1,000 which is usually around 6w or so. When we do get pregnant again that’s what she is doing with me so I think you will probably be fine. Just be prepared that it probably won’t be an external ultrasound 🙂

I had an transvaginal US at 5w0d and there was a heartbeat so there’ll be a little gummy bear there on the screen even if it is a bit early 🙂

Well, you can still have an ultrasound. But if you think you’re not as far along you should just be prepared for them to see an embryo that is not 8 weeks along. I would definitely tell them that you suspect you may not be as far along and why. You would probably be 7 weeks along.

I had a dating US at 6 weeks and they were able to clearly see the yolk sac, embyro (I think it’s an embryo at this point) and heartbeat. So, you should be able to see something even if you’re not quite 8 weeks, especially if they do transvaginal.
