I would wait. Stuff gets discontinued and changed so often, you’d probably end up having to redo half the registry anyway.

@emviamama:  we registered a year and a half before our wedding date, just to get it done 🙂

it’s never too soon 😉

just keep an eye on it, since some items will probably get discontinued in the interim.

If you’re ready to go and excited about registering, by all means do it now! You will be so busy as your wedding day gets closer. Though some things may be discontinued, china patterns, silverware, glassware, etc. shouldn’t be discontinued, avoid the more seasonal or trend focused items for now but the basics should be no problem.

I’m sure the bridal consultant at BBB can point you towards the items that are stocked permanantly versus more seasonal items that will be discontinued if that is your concern.

We had a 6 month engagement, and registered a few weeks after he proposed. Some things were discontinued and I had to choose something new. But overall, I liked crossing that chore off the list early. If you don’t mind checking your registries periodically, there’s nothing wrong with regostering now.

I started early… my wedding is in April 2014, and we registered in August. I guess I look at it this way: some things may get discontinued, but all you have to do is find something else.  If you’re anything like me, you probably will change your mind 10000000 times, and end up changing stuff. Good luck!!

I made my registry at about 9 months out and it was such a headache, every few weeks something goes unavailble. Just wait till it gets closer so you don’t have to do it twice.

A lot of people in my family (myself included) will just add your wedding gifts to their Christmas shopping.  Espeically if they live out of the major metro areas and in farm country, and don’t make it to the “big cities” that often.  This may be why you are getting so many asks about it.  I’m getting married the week before you, and am already registered.  6 items where already bought off of our registry.  I still can’t believe it.

I would say you can start with a small one of very pratical things.  There are a few things on ours that were discontinued, sure, but I’m not worrying too much about them.  There is no need to watch it like a hawk, maybe just peak in once a month to see if any of your must haves were discontinued and find replacements.  A few of our items that were not available even came back.

We are also telling our parents that they can use our registry as a Christmas list, which is nice for them.

EDT; I’m an Iowa girl too!

We registered at 9 months and if stuff gets discontinued we’ll just change our registry, NBD (: It was nice to be able to cross something else off the list!

People were asking Fiance and I a WEEK after we got engaged, and we are getting married after you. So we figured we would start and make it a longer process. I’m very glad we did because we now know how it works and what we want and all that, so we have been shopping around at different places (online) to see where we can register for what we want for the least amount. Our lives are also very hectic, so we have a “get it done when we have time” mentality for basically everything about our wedding. Most places let you manage your list online, and it’s really not that hard to update it, and it can actually be kinda fun! Also, it’s great because now people have been using it already! Fiance and I just recently moved into our first place and are starting with pretty much nothing, and a lot of people have already sent us (obviously unsolicited) homewarming presents from our lists! And people are very excited to use it for the holiday season! We both come from huge gift-giving families (we are so lucky!) and they have all been saying how they are glad they know what we want/need.

No it is not too soon to register.  On the contrary, probably a good idea.  Your family can buy your Christmas and birthday gifts from the registry, if they like.

I don’t think it’s too soon, just know that stuff does become discontinued, so you might have to change it in the future.

We are getting married a month after you and we already registered.  It is fun and people do ask about it so why not?  You can edit registries online super easy to change it around as you change your mind or replace discontinued items.

@emviamama:  Our wedding is a month before yours and we registered a few months ago. Yes, some things occasionally get discontinued but I don’t think it hurts to get something set up. Especially if you’re having an engagement party and people want to buy you gifts!
