Commenting to follow. Unfortunately I have no advice to give, as my wedding is also 2017 and I’m dying to go dress shopping!

I bought my dress about 11 months before my wedding, but I went shopping about a year and a half before the wedding.

There’s no harm in shopping.  It might help you refine your preferences!

I voted yes simply because you have a ton of time and you don’t want to buy something too early and then have dress regret. Dress regret is BIG on these boards. Seriously. Just wait at least until 2016. Then new collections will be coming out too!

If you’re ready to buy then go.  If you’re not, then don’t.  I went “looking” and ended “loving” and I will be going back next week to buy my dress.

Our wedding is  in October 2017..

Look, but dont buy!! Looking might tempt you to buy though, soooo yeah. I would wait. As PP has said, new collections will be coming out & maybe they will be having a spring sale in 2016.

I’d try dresses on but I wouldn’t buy anything yet. I think purchasing a year out is a good rule of thumb.

I wasn’t planning on buying until 11 months before my wedding, but that didn’t happen. I made an appointment at the bridal salon just to try stuff in and narrow down to maybe two or three dresses. I didn’t intend to buy, because I was almost 14 months out, and my Maid/Matron of Honor couldn’t make it that day, but I would up finding my dress and my mom said lets just buy it now, so I did.

I think it really depends on you. Are you going to make a decision and stop shopping after, or do you think you’ll want to keep looking for a while? And you can always go, try stuff on, maybe even find the dress, and still wait to buy it. There’s no rule that says you have to order as soon as you pick it out.

Here’s my take – this will be one of the biggest/greatest times of your life. I’ve been married before, now engaged again with a wedding to be held in June, 2016. My first wedding gave me a 2 year engagement. I went dress shopping almost immediately. I couldn’t wait! I’m an even planner by day, so I have it in my blood to want to get ideas, etc. immediately! 🙂 I chose a dress that I never regretted. I had it well over a year in advance, and again, never regretted. NOW, having said that, I did regret my veil and end up having to purchase a second one BUT I think that was more about who I was with when I went and the pressure to get what they wanted:)

You DESERVE to dress shop! Maybe don’t rush into buying anything but try, try, try! If nothing else, it will give you a definitive idea of what you like and don’t like and THEN you can jump on sales when they come up! Do it girl, it’s your day!

Look, but don’t buy anything. If you find someting you love, keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn’t get discontinued. My wedding is October 2016. I found my dress in August – have not bought it yet, I will actually buy it in December. But this time has been great to make sure I’ve made the right decision – I have. I sort of look every once and a while, but I’m comparing everything to my dress and it’s the dress in my head when I picture my wedding.

I bought my dress in July 2014, our wedding is January 2016…teheee.

I think that since you have your venue book and your theme established, then there’s absolutely no harm in looking. Since you have so much time, make the most of it and take your sweet time.

We got engaged this past May and are getting married October 2016. I have my first dress appointment next month, so exactly a year out. I am very picky so I’m a little afraid that I won’t find The Dress right away, but I was encouraged to wait to try things on until we were closer to a year away from our wedding. I think it’s probably too early and would wait until at least early 2016 to start looking; however, I would definitely be doing research about designers, styles, and shapes of dresses that you may like now!

Shopped about 18 months before or so just to get an idea. Second dress I tried on ended up being THE dress but didn’t purchase until 14 months before. I’m not at 12 months before (Sept. 2016 bride.)
