I am in need of some advice from fellow bees. 🙂 I bought my dress at Davids Bridal. I went to pick it up and try it on and the alterations manager told me I cannot wear a heel because I am too tall. I am 5’7. I put a 2 inch heel on and my dress is up off the floor. I really had my heart set on some beautiful blue heels. (none in particular) I don’t need a huge heel to be happy but just a little heel would be nice.
Should I just get the heels and say who cares that my dress is up off the floor or should I listen to the woman and get flats.
What would you all do? I want everything to look perfect and I guess if that means no beautiful shoes..then so be it 🙁

@jaded_chick19 Honestly, I don’t think most people will even be able to see your shoes, but I would think that alterations would be able to fix the length. Did you order a special hem to hollow length? Usually dresses are long enough for taller brides. I’m 5’7″ and I’m wearing 4.25″ heels and my dress just touches the floor.

Get some cute blue flats! Our act like you did it on purpose to show off your beautiful heels 🙂

I am 5 10 and never wear heels. You can probably figure out what my suggestion would be…. ..Try the dress on with some heels to see if you like how it looks.Good luck!Team Flats!lol

If you had planned ahead, you could have ordered a dress with extra fabric allowance to give you enough fabric for heels.
I’m 6’1″ and was easily able to find a dress. You’re only 2 inches taller than the average woman – if you can’t wear heels, all of us who are actually tall would have not been able to get dresses at all!

I would wear flats. Other option is to alter the dress to tea length and wear heels

Just for some more information:
When I bought the dress no one mentioned shoes to me. I had tried on a size smaller so it didnt fit quite right in the first place. So I really didnt think anything of it seeing as I didn’t think I was too tall. They also said there is no way to alter the dress to make it longer.
Thanks to everyone who has answered so far 🙂 Your suggestions are really helping!

with a modest 2-3″ heel, how short is it? From what I’ve read, 1/2 – 1″ off the floor will allow you to walk without kicking the skirt out in front of you…

I’m in the same boat only I’m almost 5’9″. With flats, my dress just touches the floor. Flats it is, I suppose…

@jaded_chick19 That’s crazy! Five foot seven isn’t even that tall. I have a hard time believing that a standard dress is only 5’9″ without heels. Anyway, I think you should just wear flats. I don’t like the look of a dress raised up off the floor.

I love heels, they make me feel sexy so i know why you want heels and if you want them go for it. Ive seen brides wear their skirt a little off the floor and never thought anything of it.

Try it on with flats. Try it on with heels. See which one you like better. Post pics so we can vote, if necessary.
