So earlier today I was torn about what shoes to DIY crystalize (I think some ppl call it “strass”) and really didnt want to put alot of work into something that flops. So thank you for everyones imput!!
I decided to go with the black bowed satin pump, and even though I have only gotten about 20% done, I am already SO excited!! I am posting pics, but I am NOT a good photographer, so understand it looks TONS better in person.
Just in case anyone is wondering I am using Crystal AB, and have to date bought
SS 16 1440
SS 20 144
(I actually am being send another set of each just in case, and because of other DIY projects like Veil.)
I am using E-6000 glue, and been told it is really stinky, but it wasnt bad at all! FOr other projects I will probably be using the hotfix tool, but I wanted to make sure they are really stuck on shoes and not have to do emergancy repairs.
I started off individually glueing all the big ones with tweezers, then with the smaller ones I used a paint brush and painted on the glue in tiny incruments (1 inch by one inch). It made it better to manipulate the crystals to be closer together before it dried.
After adding the biggest crystals (SS 20s used 65 on each shoe including heels inner and outter. Forgot to do one inside before taking photo…. fixed now)
Just the toe on one side done tonight…(filled in with ss 16s and ss 10s used about 150 of each)

THANK YOU!!! question.. on the bow I am not sure what to do with it? I was thinking of just doing the middle strip with the crystals, leave it alone, or add some Siam (dark red) ones on it?
I just REALLY dont want to screw it up, so I am over thinking it. lol

Hmmm. I’m not sure! I think the red would be awesome, but only if you did the whole bow. Is this possible? I’ve never done anything like that before!
If not, I’d loove it with just the middle part done in crystals!

They’re looking great!! I’d just do the middle bit of the bow too 🙂

I vote for doing dark red crystals on just the middle part of the bow.

🙂 they’re looking great! I can’t wait too see the finished product! And I vote for red wherever you can sneak it in, it’s my favorite color!!

It looks great so far!!! I’m not sure what shoe size you are, but based on how close you’re putting the crystals, you’re definitely going to need more crystals than what you have.
I used about 3500 crystals on my size 10 shoes and mine aren’t as close as yours are.
Also I like the idea adding crystals to the bow but I’m not sold on using the dark red color. The crystal AB gives off a lot of pastel colors and adding a dark red color will be a HUGE contrast. But that may be what you’re going for.

I would leave the bow alone! They look great by the way!

I have size 5.5 shoes. But it seems like everyone who does this starts out with “I have plenty” then runs out, so I bought double. THey are off Ebay, so it will take a little while. Hopefully if I do need them the next set will be in quickly!
With the bow; I am not sure abou the whole thing because its rouged on the band, and the bow is 3D on whether I will be stay sane trying to get it done right the first time. lol. At the end I will post how it looks with out or just the middle done, and see if it needs anymore.
Thank you again!

Wow, what a huge difference a few crystals make. Great job!! I would leave the bow alone, and let there be a bit of a juxtaposition between the sparkle of the shoes and the satin of the bow.

Nice work! I would leave the bow!

How much does an endeavor like this cost? Would love to try it, but it might be too pricey?

I did it the cheap way when it came to crystals. I was told Swarovski is the best, but I really couldnt afford them (if lucky about $150) I bought some flat back hotfix crystal ab on ebay. It takes about 2 weeks to get to you, but more than half as much. As you can see, they are still beautiful! I think it cost me about:
shoes 39, but was BOGO so really only about $20 (orig. $85, but was at famous footwear outlet)
E-6000 $3 (could have saved 40% at joanns but they are moving and out of EVERYTHING)
tweezers and paint brush: $2 from the dollar store
SS 20 144: 1.98
SS16 1440: 5.88
SS 10 1440:3.88
I would buy two sets of all but the SS 20 (any more than I did and I think it wouldnt look as good at lest to me) and add a package of SS 6 (3.88 also) because I was getting frustrated filling in the spaces. WIth those it would have been SO much easier.
So, before shoes I spent about 34, with shoes about 54. You could even lower that by buying shoes used, or not doing the entire shoe (heel, toe, poka dots…)
ABout the bow. I am thinking of just leaveing it too. My mom wants me to just leave them pok-a-dotted and the toe, but I think I should just go big if I am spending all this time and money.
I am thinking of doing the “I” “DO” on the shoe bottoms, but that isnt too hard, and uses whatever left overs I have.
