My dress is a Martina Liana…which I honestly had never heard of until I saw it in a bridal salon. I only know of 3 other brides wearing my exact dress. When I was shopping I didn’t pick out dresses because of the designer, I just picked dresses I thought looked pretty lol

I picked based on what WOWed me.  And it has just been that Maggie Sotteros dresses all had the wow factor for me that no other designer did.  There were a few designers that had a dress or two in my top 5 or whatever when I was deciding.  But I can pick a Maggie dress a mile away, she just has some kind of signature look in her dresses that I immediately spot and it attracts me to each and every one.

I did not pick my dresses based on designer popularity though.  In fact if they were popular I wanted to stay away from them for fear it would break my budget.

Vivienne Westwood… Not the top choice but what I would have had if money were no object!

Justin Alexander made my dress, but if I had had a limitless budget, I’d have probably gone with a St. Pucchi, Atelier Aimee or Oscar de la Renta.

I guess it all depends on what you mean by “best.”  Do  you mean best construction and materials, or most unique and trend setting designs, do you mean most expensive or do you mean widely purchased/attainable?

For me best would have to be a designer who has great quality materials and construction coupled with fashion forward designs that aren’t just recycling every season.

So with that in mind my favorites are Christos, Enzoani, Lazaro, Pronovias/Elie Saab for Pronovias, and La Sposa,

(and that’s my lawyer answer for you Smile )

Not sure what you mean, but top designers in my mind are: Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de  la Renta, Jenny Packham.  Then Lazaro, Amsale, Christos, Kenneth Poole, Modern Trousseau, etc.

I agree with @louisianablue:.  If talking about materials and construction, there’s no denying who the couture designers are.

If you’re talking about popularity, David’s Bridal sells more dresses than any other bridal company in the country.

@louisianablue:  I agree with this!

I’d also add Demetrios because my dress was a whopping $5000 originally, it was well crafted, made with thousands of Swarovski crystals and just pure elegance. I know that’s not the higher end as far as some dresses go but that was a lot for me when I was originally looking at Maggie Soterro for around $1200.

I think a lot of people pick their dresses based on budget/cost, how they look in them, and what wows them… not really by name brand.

Since becoming a member of weddingbee about 3 weeks ago, I’ve seen a gazillion posts on Vera Wang’s Gemma dress, gorgeous dress, as it’s my second reception dress!!!!
