Hi – One of my best friends got married at the Topsfield Commons this past July and it was beautiful. She was able to get her alcohol from a local distributor which cut down costs and the woman at the Commons was really helpful. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I can find out.

I went to a wedding there last year! I remember the food being good. Only complaint is be careful of the size of the wedding- I think my friend had like 150, and it was REALLY tight and REALLY hot during the cocktail hour. The building isn’t great for ‘flow’ because it’s a lot of little rooms and hallways so I remember being squeezed in and trying to find the apps. We finally did that horrible thing where we found the door the waitstaff were coming out of and ate the apps as soon as they refilled the plates :-/ how many people are you inviting?

@Ms. Noodles: I’ve been to a wedding there and also a bridal shower.  It is a very nice place.  Do be careful of the size of your wedding.  I loved the bridal shower that I went to, they did an excellent job.  The wedding was great, but I do agree with the others, it can get really cramped.  The wedding that I went to, we were seated on the 2nd floor balcony.

@MissBoston: We did the same exact thing during cocktail hour. We found out where the passers were coming from and we stood over there.
The passed hor d oeurves were very good but I don’t think they had enough passers.

@SoontobeMsL: Agreed. I remember the reception hall being lovely but the cocktail hour was cramped and I was starving.

Hi – The food was good. I ate the fish (can’t remember what type) and the other entree choices were beef tenderloin (my fiancee said nothing memorable) and eggplant parm (pretty good).

In terms of space, my friend had about 160 guests and to save space she set up the head table on the stage for the bridal party since we were only seated up there for a bit. Then she sat the dates of the bridal party on the balcony since they were likely going to be on the dance floor most of the night. For cocktail hour, my friend had the bar set up downstairs and because it was July most of the guests lingered in the courtyard for the cocktail hour. I hope this helps.

Did you decide between The Commons and Willowdale?  When initially looking Willowdale was #1 on my list but FH didn’t want to have the reception in a tent and Mom thought that the rooms were too small to accommodate our guests.  We decided on The Commons and are getting married there 10/8.  I’ve heard that space can be tight when you get over 125 guests but we won’t have that problem as we’re only inviting 115 and are expecting that some will not come.  I went to the tasting in February and the food was delicious, lots of variety.  Hope you found the perfect place for your reception!

I am so glad that you started this thread! My Fiance and I are waiting to receive the contract from The Commons to officially start the process.  We are having somewhere between 75-100 guests.  I was originally worried that we’d be too small to fill the space, but you have alleviated my fears!
