Diet is going to help you lose more weight than exercise will, so you just need to adjust your diet more.  What kind of weight loss plan are you on now?

ETA: And that stinks about your calf. 🙁

Sorry about your calf!

I agree with Boston Bee though, weight loss is about 90% WHAT you eat and 10% exercise.  I’m doing Weight Watchers and I love it, you should check it out.

Ouch, that sucks!

The bruising you will probably not be able to help much…if you continue to keep it elevated and alternate between heat and ice, you should be able to control the cramping and swelling.  The light massage your doctor suggested is also a good idea – but if you can’t do that now because of the pain, I would wait a few days!  Maybe even just try moving it around a bit – small flex and point exercises – not to hurt you but just to keep the muscle from seizing up too much!

Hopefully you heal soon!

I’m sorry! That sounds so painful & I would be so sad not to be able to run.

Agree with posters who’ve said DIET makes a huge difference! Also, this could be the stupidest advice ever, but on 30 day shred Jillian mentions doing punches if you have a lower body injury….just doing arm workouts and things to get your heartrate up (like the punches) could help burn some calories….and get your arms in good shape for the wedding!

Good luck, hope you are better soon!!

Ice packs & icy hot helps! I had something similar happen and it only took about a week and a half to feel okay (not great, but okay). Once it becomes less painful, you might be able to do swimming or even yoga (something low intensity!) Plus, I’ve read that it is good to do a lot of stretching yoga, because when a muscle is torn, it can heal shorter and be more prone to tearing in the future if you dont work on it (by stretching, but again, I would wait at least a few days before trying.) You could also switch up your workouts for other parts of your body – you could still use dumbbells or a curl bar and work your arms! Plenty of ab exercises don’t require your legs either.

As far as the bruising, eating bananas is supposed to help bruises heal faster. (I forget whether it’s the potassium or something else.) From my own experiences, that seems to help~

As others have said, your other option is to focus more on diet, portion control, etc.

Good luck and don’t push your calf muscle too hard (the risk of more damage is not worth it!)

I think that by watching your diet and doing some upper body exercises, you will be able to tone up without messing up your calf more.  I’m not sure about your dress style, but most only really show the back, arms, and maybe the stomach so you don’t have to worry about toning your legs right now.  Feel better soon!

I was so worried about injuring myself before the big day too.

Think about swimming.  You can get a pull bouy, so that your legs remain still & will float and use your arms to swim.  It’s great exercise.  Then use machines for upper body toning.

So sorry to hear about your injury.. promise it will be okay!!
