I did my own makeup and was very pleased. I also own higher end makeup so I wasn’t concerned about the quality. I’ve had airbrush makeup done and didn’t like how it looked so heavy on my face. It photographed well, but in person was super heavy. It’s likely it was the application was done wrong, but I didn’t want to risk it. I also refused to wear flash lashes. I have long lashes, so a good waterproof mascara was all I needed. I watched YouTube videos like crazy that used the specific products I knew I was going to use and practiced several times. If you’re confident in your skills then go for it. I would go a little heavier than you’re used to though so that it shows up in pictures. You don’t want to look washed out. Practice practice practice!

I’m going to have my makeup done. I dont wear a lot and so I don’t want a lot put on. I think I am going to get airbrush. I won’t do fake eyelashes or any of that nonsense. Its not me.  But I just dont want my pics to look bad and I don’t trust myself to do my makeup.

I did my own makeup. I wear only basic makeup and felt super uncomfortable after my makeup trial because of the heaviness, so I did my own the day of. If you have quality products that you know how to use and you know will last the whole day then I think it’s fine to do your own!

A good MUA won’t make you look overdone at all. If you don’t want falsies, airbrushing etc, they will still give you a very natural look.

I hear what you are saying about the cost, they are not cheap. I would also consider myself to be not-too-bad makeup-wise and feel that I do a decent job myself. But I really don’t want to be unecessarily stressed on the day. I’m paying for the experience of sitting there and being pampered while still being able to chat away to everyone rather than be hovering over a mirror for an hour on my own. So to me, this experience alone is worth the money 🙂

kathrynmarisam2017 :  I totally get this!  I don’t wear make up on a daily basis and kinda thought it was a waste of money BUT my girls wanted one so I decided to find one for them on the day of and do a trial to see how they were. I really liked it and they did a great job of making it look like me but still weddingy.  They even put of fake lashes *gasp* and it wasn’t that scary ( I suggest the bunches not the strips as they seem more natural )

i say go go to a trial and see what they can do I was surprise how pleased I was

I was just in your shoes! I was trying to save money (got married in Maui and a makeup artist was $150).  At the end of the day I ended up hiring someone.  It was so nice not to have to worry or stress out about looking nice and doing the makeup correctly. The girl came to our hotel, so i just relaxed and drank a mimosa while she worked.

I thought it was worth every penny and I highly reccomend it!!!

I had never done professional makeup before my epics. I’m not the best at makeup. We did false lashes and after a few minutes I didn’t even really notice them. I loved the way she made me look! I would suggest a trial and see how you feel. If there is one day I want to feel extra glamorous I want it to be my wedding day.

I’ll be doing my own makeup, and I don’t even own the good stuff!

I’ve been blessed with great skin,  no foundaton necessary.

I say if your capable and you want to then why the hell not??

kathrynmarisam2017 :  I don’t think it’s necessary to have someone else to do your makeup for your big day. You can ask Ultra or Sephora do makeup trial for you and ask them any questions about long lasting makeup. I did my own makeup and was happy with my wedding photos

kathrynmarisam2017 :  I did… I looked on Pinterest and showed them a few pictures.  Also I had them start with a more natural look and then added where I felt comfortable. So I got to try a few different looks

Oh man, all I want are lashes! I think I can do an okay job on the rest of the makeup.

that being said, at one point, I contacted the local makeup school, Craigslist and mentioned it to the girls at Sephora. I ended up getting a lot of inexpensive contacts, like 1/3 to 1/5 of the price of most MUAs in our area.

im questioning it a bit because these girls have no business reputation to uphold, so if they don’t feel like it they may not show up. So I might just go with someone expensive.

however, if I was totally happy doing my own makeup I would ask one of them to come. Then if they don’t show up I’d just do it myself and not worry about what anyone says cause at least I tried to find an MUA.
