@victoriab127:  September/October is still good weather out here. I wouldn’t take fall off the table for Big Sur.

@lyni12:  I’m originally from Poughkeepsie and have moved to the very bottom of the Adirondacks. We’re planning on eloping on a mountain top and we love food so please pick my brain of you want!

Both options sound lovely, and it sounds like you’re heavily leaning local, but I thought I’d throw out why I voted for Big Sur. We wanted a microwedding (28 guests), and had to make a similar choice…did we do it in our state at this gorgeous local venue, or did we travel to the mountains? We made the decision to go with the mountains for the reasons you laid out in your OP…even though it was less convenient, it was somewhere different and special to us. It was worth it for the photos alone! We have reason to go back to the area semi-regularly (my in-laws have a small cabin there, so we go up a few times a year), and it’s always so fun to get up there and see all the sights. The logistics weren’t bad…I just asked the company we used for an officiant/photography what they recommended and went over tons of reviews. It worked out perfectly.

Again, it sounds like getting married locally would be a great option, and possibly the right one. But as someone who did go long-distance to make it feel a little more magical, I’m THRILLED with that decision 2 years later.

@victoriab127:  I know some people say the wedding photos don’t matter/you never look at them, but in our case, it hasn’t been true at all! Our photographer got this gorgeous zoomed-out shot of the ceremony with the mountains in the background, and we got it printed as a large canvas. All of our parents have multiple photos printed/displayed as well.

We did a cross between the two. We eloped, out of the country, using an elopement package, that was only a 60 minute flight. The short distance isn’t why we chose it, but it does make it a place that’s really easy to revisit.

I live local to you and I vote for the local option. We did our ceremony in Piermont (park with gazebo). and honeymooned to the Cape. I love that we can revisit our ceremony/reception location to mark our anniversary or just because.

Since I live in upstate NY I see why people visit here, because it is BEAUTIFUL. So my vote would be that. Oh the pictures are going to be beautiful!
