My fiance and I are thinking of getting married in Toronto. Do any of you have any suggestions for Catholic churches downtown? The only problem is my fiance is not Catholic, so I am looking for a church that is not quite as strict as some Catholic churches can be. We have been living together the past couple of years now, and I don’t want that to be a problem.
Thanks for your help!

You’ve probably gotten married by now, but I thought I’d answer it for future brides.
My sister ran into a similar problem – We’re Catholic but her fiance wasn’t. They searched around for Catholic churches in Toronto but they were all very strict. They wouldn’t even consider discussing a date until they had both been attending for at least 3 months. It was very frustrating.
In the end, they decided on the chapel at Trinity College at the University of Toronto. They brought in an Anglican priest who was wonderful, and all they need to do now is have the marriage ‘approved’ by the Catholic church. It’s apparently not that difficult.
I just thought that it’d be helpful to let you know that there are other options out there.
Otherwise, St. Michael’s Cathedral is stunning, and it’s in downtown Toronto. My parents were wed there in the chapel 44 years ago. However it was one of the venues my sister looked into but it was incredibly strict.
Hope this helps!

Trinity College chapel is GORGEOUS. I love it, but yes it is an Anglican chapel. You could also check out St. Basil’s which is also on the U of T campus.

Our Lady of Lourdes on Sherbourne and Earl is doing our marriage prep and they have been absolutely fine about the living together thing. It’s a lovely church inside too.
