I go for my first fitting tomorrow night and I don’t have my undergarments yet!! Aaahh!! When I tried my dress on at David’s Bridal they told me that I need the torsolette 8950. It has boning. Can someone please tell me if you had the same experience with the bridal shop telling you that you need a “Special” bra like the torsolette but you got away with wearing a regular strapless bra instead? I have a pretty large chest…34DD. I just don’t see spending close to $100 on something I will wear under my dress one time. Granted the dress will only be worn once but that is TOTALLY different 😉
Advice?
P.S. On top of the money, it’s not very “wedding night-esque” if you know what I mean.

I dont know how torsolettes arent weddingesque? Its like a white bustier type thing isnt it? 34dd isnt that bad to find sizing in. Im a 32F so not a lot of difference, you’d need a high quality strapless bra to pull it off but you could at a 34dd

@CherryL: The only one they showed me at David’s was pretty plain. I imagined wearing something a little more sexy for wedding night. But I also don’t want to be pulling a bra up all night in case it doesn’t have enough support.

Well its sort of like a corset if its a proper fitting one it shouldn’t have to be pulled up all night. You could…bedazzle it? :p

@smrlovingrl: I’m a 32DD and there’s no way I’d get away with a regular strapless bra. The bustier/longline bra I bought has boning, will smooth everything out, and won’t shift, move or slide down under my dress. Definitely worth the extra money!!

You could always chance into something sexier afterwards

Could you go to a corset/lingerie shop before your fitting and get something nice that would and be pretty and supportive? I went with a lace bustier that is beautiful and functional, it was only $60. I think David’s Bridal charges ridiculous amounts for things. No way is a plain torsolette worth $100, but in my experience (similar size) I’d be afraid that a strapless bra would be soooo uncomfortable. You need some support, you don’t want to be tugging at your bra all night.

I bet you’ll love the torsolette. They’re so much more stability – you don’t have to worry about it falling down – I always find myself visiting the bathroom to hike up my strapless after wearing it for a couple hours…no matter how tight I button it it always works its way down. And there are some pretty sexy torsolettes out there:

Thanks Ladies! I actually went to a few places to try to find one that was a little less expensive but none of them had boning. I tried Victoria’s Secret, Macy’s, JCPenny, etc.
@abax what lingere shops do you think would have one? VS didn’t. I’m not really sure of any other lingere stores where I live.

@smrlovingrl: The shop I got my dress at reccommended a private mom and pop shop to me, since David’s Bridal probobly won’t do that, maybe you could google some in your area? My corset is Dominique brand, I also tried on Felina brand. Here is a link to the shop I used…maybe you could google some of the brands and find a store near you that carries them?
