I saw a post on here a while ago about how much people were spending on their weddings based on how much their salaries were and it literally made me think I’m crazy for spending as much as we have spent so far, but then I realized that my wedding can cost 4x as much if I have 4x as many guests. As we all know – the bigger the wedding the bigger the cost.
So I was curious – how much did you spend? or are you going to spend and how many guests will you be having?
We are inviting 500 people (don’t even ask, he has the hugest family ever, his sister got married 6 years ago and 750 people showed up to the wedding). We are hoping for no more than 400 people.
With 400 guests our total cost will be: $55,000 (excluding honeymoon)
$36,000 is going towards alcohol and food as the banquet hall is charging us $90 bucks per head – with that being said we had an extra $19k to spend on flowers, band, limo, photographer, videographer, wedding bands, dress, accessories etc. I think we are on a strict budget, but people tell me I’m insane.

That actually sounds pretty reasonable for 400 guest to me. I had about 140 and paid 22k.

OMG, that is a huge wedding. My wedding was 100 guests and cost us 5300.00 and it was the most amazing day ever. We decided to buy a house and use the 25K we saved as a down payment.

And trust me – we already narrowed the list down to as much as possible – considering his sisters wedding had 750 guests.. which 500 of them she probably didnt even know. Surprisingly I will know more than 50% of the people! but I’m just a bit annoyed that it has to be so big, but it is what it is.

That sounds reasonable to me as well. 400 guests is A LOT and $90 per head is reasonable. We spent about that same on our wedding for 170 guests.

We’re inviting 120 people and it’ll be about 25K (unless some RSVP no!)

That sounds pretty reasonable. You are having more guests than me and spending less so kudos to you!
We are having 115 guests (confirmed, hooray!!) and our budget excluding honeymoon is now at $60,000 (not as high as we had estimated a few months ago thank goodness). I have no idea how much the honeymoon will end up costing in the end, I’m guessing around $5,000 or so.

when you think about guest count, it makes more sense! We’re at 8k right now for 110 guests. 🙂

We’re expecting around 120 guests to attend and the total cost is 25k.

Wow you guys are a doing a great job for having that many guest

That sounds pretty good for 500 people! We’re estimating around 150 people for about 16-17k (also on a budget!) so in comparison, ours would be approximately 53k for 500.
ETA: Whoops, just noticed you said you’re expecting 400, not 500. I still think that’s pretty good! Ours would be more like 45k for 400 people, but I can definitely see where 10k could be added in easily. I don’t think you’re insane!

I wish I could feed 400 guests for the in the Boston area. We went north of the city to another state just to save money and the food and drinks for 210 people was about $40k. Our total costs excluding honeymoon and rings was around $65k. Thankfully our parents helped so we were still able to buy a house, rings, and go on a honeymoon.

@mags2233: Holy lord!! Thats a huge & expensive wedding!! (to me). Our numbers as of right now are around 170 and we will be spending under $20,000.

We’re expecting about 125 people at our reception in our home town after a Destination Wedding and we’re looking at around $12,000.

Were inviting 135 guests and were keeping it at 12K. If we had been smart we would have been saving for at least a year in advance of the engagement we would have had alot more to spend.
