Darling Husband and I were on our way home last week (we live in a very rural , wooded area) and a huge deer ran out of the treeline and we slammed into her at 60mph!. We are both fine! thank God! buy my car ( nissan maxima ) AKA SILVER DRAGON is totally ruined. Our insurance went ahead and totalled the car and sent us our payout….. which now brings me to …. car shopping 🙁
I hate it and its totally overwhelming. I was originally thinking about getting a small suv (ford escape, Chevy Equinox, ) but am still leaning towards a car. (Nissan Altima, Chevy Cruze, Ford Fusion, Chevy Malibu)
so if you have any of these models or If anyone has recently purchased a newer vehicle…. between the years 2008-2012 please lemme know what make and model you have LOVE! the good, the bad, and everything in between.

I would go for a Cruze or a Fusion, personally. I didn’t like the newer Nissans when I was test driving.
I have a Chevy Malibu.

I bought the 2011 Mazda 2 a couple of months ago and I love it. It’s so awesome!

My parents have only been buying Malibus for their past three cars, and they love them! I think they had a 2003 Malibu (they gave this to my aunt and its still running well), a 2008 Malibu Maxx (they no longer make these), and then when my mom totaled that, she has a new 2011 Malibu. Its really nice, but I also really liked her 2008 one when I had to drive it.

I have 2010 Mini Cooper and I absolutely adore it! If you want something larger they now have the Mini Countryman which is much bigger and has four doors. GREAT MPG! I’m totally upgrading to the four door when we have kids. I don’t see myself ever buying anything else but another MINI. They are great cars.

I personally would never drive a Ford, we are GMC and Honda people. But, I will agree that the Minis are nice, and would love to test drive a Countryman!
My mom’s got a CRV with over 300k miles on it and it still runs like a champ. Also helps that the hubs is a mechanic and keeps it going for her. But if you keep up with maintenance, a Honda will run forever, and they all get decent mpg

@MrsRuby: Nissans are one of my favorite car makers. I have owned a Nissan Sentra and I loved it too.
@MrsSl82be:Mini’s are made by BMW, not by Ford. I could have read that wrong but I read it as you think Minis are made by Ford. ?

Glad you are okay! My inclination is to check the safety ratings on each of these (easily found online). I had a horrible crash a few years ago and the car saved me. A lesser car and I would have been… in big trouble.
I remember hearing the Cruze had a safety issue, or a steering wheel issue? I don’t remember exactly.

I just got a Nissan Sentra a few months ago (a long overdue new car!) and I absolutely love it! Really smooth ride and it just feels really safe. I love that it isn’t too big, but still holds a lot of stuff and is SO easy to park! I test drove a few other kinds of cars, and a lot felt cheaply made or plastic-y. My mom has a Nissan Altima and really, really loves it! I never thought I would be a nissan person, but I have changed my mind! 🙂

Maybe try a small SUV – Honda CRV, perhaps?

I have a 2011 Hyundai Elantra Touring and i LOVE IT! My best friend refers to it as the soccer mom in-training mobile, but I love it anyway. 🙂

@MrsRuby: I <3 my 2009 Nissan Altima. It rides great and it’s really quiet. It has a lot of available upgrades too. My next car will be a SUV, but if I was to get another car, I’d get another Nissan hands-down.
