I think Fiance and I both take sips during our meal. I do know that it is true that it is best for digestion to wait until you’re finished eating (for a half hour? Hour?) before drinking anything, but I ignore that rule.

I need to drink between bites. Not every bite, but I definitely like to wash my food down with something.

I usually forget to drink anything while I’m eating… unless I dont like the food then I take a lot of drinks… lol usually though I don’t drink a drop until the food is gone.

@Jazziberry: I totally ignore that rule! haha
@Jaynee: I couldn’t agree more.
@HappilyEverAfter54: I see that quite a few people have said they just kind of forget about their drink… I don’t think I’ve ever done that. Even when I was starving and scarfing my food down. lol

I am a compulsive water drinker (I swear, usually 4 litres per day, which is maybe bordering on a bit crazy!) At some point in my crazy teenage years when trying to being anorexic was ‘cool’ I read something that said that drinking water between each bite of food fills you up quicker and makes you eat less. I don’t actually think of that when I eat but I still find myself alternating every bite with a drink of water.
Oh yeah, I also have a weird phobia of choking and for some reason, washing down each bite with water makes me think I have less of a chance of choking. Ridiculous, I know. It only applies to water though – with beer or wine, I can usually go 2 – 3 bites between drinks.
Oh geez, I really think I have issues! lol!

Strange! I drink throughout my meal. I’ve never realized there was any other way to do it!!

Most of the time I won’t drink while eating…I just kind of forget to, LOL! : D

I always drink a little bit during my meal, but I usually don’t drink most of my beverage until after the meal. However, the amount I drink usually depends on if anything I am eating is drying or spicy or something–then I have to drink more than I would normally just so I can swallow comfortably again. And if something tastes bad, but I’m trying to be polite and eat it anyway, then I have to drink something just to cleanse my palate from the nastiness haha.

I said sips throughout, but it’s much more sporadic than that. Usually I’ll inhale 1/4 of my dinner on the spot, then take a break and a sip. Then back to the next 1/4, finally drinking more when it’s over. Depending on how full I am, I might alternate sips with a few more bites, ultimately taking the rest home. So it’s certainly not a constant ratio.

It’s really interesting how everyone eats and drinks so differently! The possibilities are endless! lol

Fiance and I cannot eat if we don’t have drinks to sip as we eat.

@futuremrshc: I feel ya. I’m the same. That’s why I call Fiance a WIERDO…
haha…I kid, I kid.

I have a really hard time eating without having something to drink with it. I can eat something small without something to drink OK, but if it’s a real sit down meal of any sort (something as heavy as pasta or even as light as a salad or soup), I HAVE to have something to drink. I usually take at least one sip per bite, too.

Ok … so if I NEEDED to (say, to win a bet or something) I probably COULD go the entire meal without taking a drink, but I in no way PREFER it. When out to eat, my Fiance will probably go through two glasses, and I’ll normally go through one. I probably take a sip every 3-4 bites?

When I was a kid, we were never given drinks with dinner and I never thought about it until I started really going over to other people’s houses for dinner and seeing that they all had a drink with dinner! Now I do both. If I’m at home, I usually don’t drink with dinner, but if I’m at a restaurant I can drink 2 glasses of water with lemon or iced (sweet) tea.
