- Wedding: September 2010
Hey Bees! As some of you know, the wedding planning process has been horrible for me. I am a planner by nature and love getting everything “just so”…
So between my Future Sister-In-Law who didn’t talk to us for 5 months after finding out she wasn’t a bridesmaid, my SIL who told me that she is the only one who has a right to be upset that she’s not a bridesmaid cuz I was her only one, my brother going through a divorce while I’m excited about planning my wedding, my Maid/Matron of Honor (best friend of 17 years) backing out via email with a lame excuse while I was in another country by myself and had no one to turn to, my SIL informing the world via facebook that she and my brother and their son aren’t coming to the wedding (yes, I found out on facebook) because of issues they have with my parents… my Future Sister-In-Law spreading rumors that our wedding is 3 hours away (45min) with no lodging nearby (we’re offering a shuttle to/from for guests of the hotel we booked a block at, and it’s near fricken Boston, there are PLENTY of hotels), and telling people that I forced Fiance to propose even though he wasnt’ ready… It’s been an absolute nightmare.
But all that aside, we’ve been plugging away at the planning process… We had talked about a 1940’s inspired ceremony, which we’re still doing, I’ll walk down the aisle to a violin solo of some awesome jazz standard to be determined after we arrive via 1939 Cadillac Limousine.
Our reception was going to be classic/elegant to match the 1940’s inspired ceremony… we had talked about doing “Old Hollywood Couples” for the table numbers, we had ordered simple bamboo tealight holders for favors, to match the browns and greens of the ceremony colors… we even looked at 1940’s vintage cake toppers (which I found to be very creepy, by the way!). None of them really jumped out at us… and it was then when we realized we were just trying to make things fit with the ceremony theme, and that it wasn’t really capturing US!
Now, when Fiance and I met, we bonded over our mutual love for the Red Sox, 80’s sitcoms, Nintendo and Golf. I did my boudoir pics wearing a skimpy little Red Sox tank and VS panties… he LOVED it.
I was browsing Etsy about a week ago when I came across the best cake topper I’ve ever seen… it was Luigi and Princess Daisy from the Super Mario Bros. games. When I saw the Luigi and Daisy cake topper, I knew it was too perfect not to get. I sent the link to Fiance who immediately agreed… who cares if it doesn’t “fit our theme” he said… and I said “well we can always change our theme…” He agreed, and I ran with it.
We cancelled the order for our bamboo candle holders (full refund because they hadn’t shipped yet, thank goodness), and placed an order for Mario 1UP Mushroom candy tins! They’re so freakin’ cute I can’t even handle it. Our venue also includes floating candle centerpieces, so I found yellow star floating candles online (think invincibility star from Mario games!) and ordered them for under $30!
Our table numbers/names are going to be different 80’s sitcoms (Who’s the Boss, Perfect Strangers, A-Team, to name a few)… and I’m going to see if I can make a seating chart diagram that looks like the Mario Mushroom Kingdom from the game! GOD I’m such a nerd.
Oh! And I had ordered pretty plain ivory shoes with a low-ish heel (FI is not that much taller than me, I’m 5’4″ and he’s 5’8″ so he gave me a strict heel height limit), but they really were boring me to tears, although very 1940’s. SOOO I will be returning these and I have ordered the cutest YELLOW/ORANGE/RED/GREEN kitten heels!
Anyway, check out the pics, let me know what you think!
