Hey Bees!
He did it!! He proposed!
Here’s some back story… I posted on February 13th about my SO dropping flowers off to my house (where I live with my parents) the day before Valentine’s Day. I also lost my ring and thought maybe these two things were related and maybe he had stolen my ring when he was here asking my parents for their blessing. Well, I ended up locating the ring I’d lost a few days later and just put the idea out of my head and chalked it up to my SO being sweet. We had previously had a big chat/meltdown where SO assured me he had a plan, so the last few weeks I haven’t really felt the need to think about a proposal, as I was knowing and trusting in his eventual plan. So… fast forward to this weekend.
Thursday and Friday I was so sick with a stomach flu and fretting because SO and I were heading away on Saturday for a weekend getaway in Muskoka. Thankfully, I managed to shake most of the bug by Saturday. SO picked me up and we decided to go buy snacks, booze and other essentials for the trip. There were a few telling moments, but I guess I was pretty aloof because I only picked up on them after the proposal. For example, at the liquor store, I said “Lets get 2 bottles of wine. Red for you and white for me”. SO insisted we get champagne, telling me that his new favourite drink was a mimosa! Hahaha. I just figured he’d been hanging around my family too often and agreed on the champagne!
So, we get up to this AMAZING resort around 4pm, get checked in and decide to head out for a hike in the snowy woods. We hiked all around and then SO suggested we walk down to the lake. I agreed and we continued our hike. At one point I pointed to the lake and asked if that’s where we should go and he said “Ya. That looks like a prime spot” and I responded with “Prime spot for what? Haha. For looking?” and he said “Ya, obviously…” Still… did not expect the following to happen….
So we get to the edge of the lake and there is an upturned bench. The sun was beginning to set and I suggested we sit on the legs of the bench and watch the sunset. SO said sure and I walked to the bench and sat down. I looked up and he was still standing there. Before I could say anything, he was on one knee and had pulled the ring out of his pocket!!
I can’t remember exactly what he said but I know that it was amazing sweet and I’m sure terribly difficult for my extremely un-emotive man to muster. I, of course, accepted and bust into a completely ugly cry. I kept saying “I really didn’t think you were going to do it this weekend! Oh my God… I’m so excited. I’m so happy”
We went back to the hotel room, celebrated with champagne (haha!) and made calls to our family and close friends with the news.
It was perfect. A perfect winter propsal and very… us. We spent the rest of the weekend in this amazing “engaged bubble of bliss” as I kept calling it!
An without further adieu, the ring…
