Okay, let me first say that I know very little about the wonderful world of men’s formal attire. 🙂 I don’t really understand what they wear, why they wear it, etc.
Anyway, I started out REALLY wanting Fiance and the groomsmen to have a somewhat casual look… like maybe khaki suits. Then Fiance compleeetely vetoed that idea, because he really wants to have the whole “experience” of dressing up in a black tux. Okay, fine.
But what I’m currently stuck on is how to create a nice overall “look” for our bridal party. My bridesmaids are wearing the Alfred Angelo dress below. It’s a very pretty robin’s egg blue. My initial thought was to find ties for the groomsmen that would coordinate, but it turns out that this shade of blue is impossible to find in ties. (I wanted some kind of pattern ideally, not just a solid.) I’ve been to about 8 different stores looking at ties, and found nothing except a few kinda ugly paisleys.
I’m just getting so frustrated because I see all these photos of bridal parties that look SO good, just so nice and cohesive, and I can’t figure out how to create that! I would REALLY appreciate any help or ideas.
This is the bridesmaid dress:

Have you thought about ties that have the robin’s egg blue as an accent?
Check out etsy.com. You might have more modern options there. Also check out stores like TJ Maxx or Marshalls. The ones by me have tons of nice blue ties.

oooh, etsy! I never ever remember to check etsy for stuff, even though I usually find exactly what I need on there. Ha! I just checked a few sellers and already saw a few ties that I like. It’s really just a matter of finding the right shade of blue. I’ve seen a million ties that are more of a baby blue, but the robin’s egg is kinda more aqua-ish so it’s more difficult to match.

Can you find ribbon the same colour? You could make the boutonnieres out of matching ribbon and just find a coordinating tie colour.

I like some of the other poster’s ideas for other ways to incorporate the robin’s egg blue into the guys outfits, but I also found a few potential ties if you stil wanted to go that route. Obviously you may have to order ones you like to truely compare the colors, but these look like they could be close enough to tie everything together!

http://www.elegantascot.com/foleascrtiet4.html – The site calls it Tiffany blue but it doesn’t look Tiffany blue to me – looks more like your Bridesmaid or Best Man dress color.
http://www.zazzle.com/floral_twirls_tba_winner_tie-151416244656482679 – This one may be a bit dark of a shade of blue, but I thought the pattern was fun and it may still coordinate without matching perfectly
Hope this helps!

Do you hate Vera Bradley? Most people either love it or hate it. LOL. But when I saw the dress you posted, I immediately thought of VB. Are your colors blue and black? Or blue and something else? She has a lot of patterns with robin’s egg in them:
I especially love the ‘Cambridge’ pattern all the way on the left.

@futurekmm… Some of those look like possibilities, it’s just so hard to tell exactly what shade of blue they would be in person… it’s a subtle difference between robin’s egg blue and baby blue (the former being a little more aqua-ish), but it has to be pretty close or it will drive me crazy. 🙂
@twocatcupcake… Personally I like a few of the Vera ones, the Cambridge one in particular, but my Fiance thinks all Vera stuff is quite girly (well, it is!) so I think I’d have trouble selling him on that.
Anyway, my latest development on this issue is that I happened to stumble upon these boxed shirt/tie sets with a shirt that is the EXACT shade of blue that the bm dresses are, and the tie is black/blue stripes (the blue on the tie is like a shade darker than the blue of the shirt/dresses).
Sooo… now I’m thinking… Black suits, black vests (I don’t want vests, but Fiance insists), blue shirts for groomsmen, white shirt for Fiance, everyone with the black/blue ties. Is that weird? I know I’ve seen pics of groomsmen in colored shirts before, but I guess it isn’t typical.
My other option would be everyone in white shirts, but still use these ties (these sets were fairly inexpensive, so I’d be fine with keeping the sets just for the ties!).
I need some feedback here, how do you think this would look? Thanks! 🙂
