I think if a person is playing for fun (and not an Olympic type situation where the rules are far more stringent) they should play as however they personally identify.

@Treejewel19:  Thats tough. Though honestly I would expect all individuals to be treated as the gender they present themselves as. I think it would be difficult and invasive to determine the gender of each participant, and I certainly wouldn’t want to go through that as a woman who has always been a woman, much less as someone who has changed my physical gender.

What are the different rules that apply for the men?

Whatever gender they subscribe to, they need to play to those rules. Simple. If you try to play by “male” rules and fail, you should be penalized as a man would be. Same with girls.

I agree with what KatyElle said– in a professional or Olympic type situation, I think it could work out to an unfair advantage.

I’m confused.. are there 2 sets of rules for the same game.. ie: men play men’s way, women play women’s way at the same time?

I played rugby in college, and one team we played against had a woman who was in the process of becoming a woman.  She still had the athletic build of a man, and we all thought it was unfair that she was allowed to play.  Men and women usually play on separate teams because men are just stronger and faster, and it creates an unfair advantage.  Although, it was also unfair that the girl in question’s college team kicked her off when she decided to transition to being a woman…like the men’s rugby team was like, you’re off!  Eventually she left the school because of the way they treated her…=(

I think if people are in the process of becoming another gender, they should still follow the SPORTS rules of the gender they are IF it creates an unfair advantage for them to follow the other rules.  Does that make sense?

I’m confused about the men-only rules too..? I think they should play as the gender they identify with, I mean it’s not like the transgendered person is thinking “hey I identify as a woman but my man’s strength will help me beat women in a sport.”

@peachacid:  I think thats also a perfectly acceptible rule. We just have to have a fair basis to judge that on.

@fiver:  I think a person who is transitioning from being a man to a woman would CERTAINLY think that…not necessarily in a cocky way, but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t think that.  I’D think that!

@Treejewel19:  Are the rules in place due to height or strength differences?
