So we’re arranging for a shuttle for the day and we’re using Windy City. Primarily it’s to take us, immediate fam and bridal party from the hotel to the ceremony site, and then from the ceremony to reception venue.   We aren’t too worried about transportation for guests from ceremony to reception b/w we’re getting married downtown and the venues are literally about 6 blocks away from each other. Once the shuttle drops us off at the reception, we’re having it turn around and shuttle any of the older folks or those who don’t want to walk, but we’re assuming most ppl will just walk over.

We rented buses for our guests from the hotel block (in the loop) to the church (in Lakeview) and back to the loop for the reception. We used Metropolitan Limousine & Buses. I didn’t want to spend the money, but this was a battle my parents won. In the end, it poured on our wedding day and I was glad no one had to walk to/from transit or wait for cabs!

@AshleyR83:  I’m interested in providing transportation too. Can you ladies give estimates for the day of shuttle or bus service?

We used two transportation companies.

For the bridal party, we rented a trolley from the Trolley Car & Bus Company.  They were great, and the prices were reasonable for a trolley rental.  More importantly, the trolley was clean and on-time!

For guests, we only provided transportation at the end of the night.  Everything else was close to the el, had free parking, or was within walking distance. We mostly just wnated to prevent people from walking around downtown late at night, in case cabs weren’t to be found.

For the hotel shuttle, we rented a mini bus from M&M Transportation.  It was really cheap — around $100 per hour for a few hours.  (I would have used Trolley Car for this rental, too, but they were more expensive.) The driver was great, on-time, and friendly, no complaints there.

Hope this helps!

@AshleyR83–Thanks! I budgeted around 1200 for transportation so that sounds about right. I need to transport about 50 out of town guests from the hotel to the venue and back to the hotel at the end of the night.

Our venue is kind of off the beaten path (Salvage One) so I’m wondering if we should provide transportation for the other guests to a more central part of the city so that they can get home (via el or taxi) without driving.

We are renting a school bus to transport the guest from the hotel to the venue (ceremony & reception are in the same place). We will have the shuttle stay all night so if anyone needs to go back to the hotel for any reason they can.

IL School BUS Company for 9 hrs gave me a price of about 630

Bus sits about 47 people

forgot to mention it’s a fifteen minute drive from the hotel to the venue.

@AshleyR83:  Thanks–I’m so excited about the venue! They are booking far in advance and we only locked down a date because we’re having our wedding on a Sunday.

Is your wedding coming up soon? Where are you having it? Good luck figuring out transportation. I’ll definitely need something for more than 4 hours so thanks for pointing out the time frames that you have seen. Let me know which company you end up going with….

@AshleyR83:  So, I would say yes to Metropolitan for shuttles, and no for limos. We booked them based on our venue coordinator’s recommendation after lots of her previous brides had used them. We had a great experience with them for mini buses to shuttle our guests around. From the guest pictures anyway, they look pretty darn fancy. They were on time and we had no complaints.

That said, my parents and I were going to take a limo to our ceremony site, and it never showed up! They accidentally sent it to one of the guest hotels, apparently. We ended up hailing a cab in my wedding dress, which made for great pictures and a good story but clearly wasn’t the plan 🙂 They did have it meet us at the church to pick up my parents afterwards and reimbursed them for the cost, for whatever that’s worth…
