My fiance and I have taken care of most of the large reservations for the wedding and are now starting to take care of the little details. However, we have yet to reserve transportation and it’s now getting down to the wire to make arrangements. It can no longer be put off anymore. Initially we wanted to just have transportation for us. We were going to rent a convertible for our day, but we live in the Albany, NY area and it appears some of the rental companies do not have luxury vehicles that you can reserve the exact model and color. We’d have to rent in a large city from those who offer reserving models. We had initially decided against a limo because we had the entire wedding party and their SO (~20 people) plus us and our parents. It also seemed like it was going to be expensive for a limo. Now it looks like we have no other option. I guess one of the reasons we also can’t decide is we’re not sure who needs transportation and how the whole transportation scheduling works. I would love to hear from other brides what they are doing for transportation that isn’t breaking the bank. I also wouldn’t mind some advice on how transporting the wedding party the day of the wedding works! Any insight would be great!

Where are you transporting people to/from? The hotel to the venue? The ceremony to the reception? Will the vehicle even be seen by any guests or will you just be in and out?
We went with a basic shuttle bus that carted people every hour to and from our hotel to our venue (ceremony and reception in same location). No photos were taken of it and I had a lot bigger and better things to worry about than the transportation. It was practical and that’s all I cared about. Also I think people appreciated being shuttled around so they didn’t have to drive.

We would be transporting our wedding party from the hotel to the ceremony and then from the ceremony to the reception. Our ceremony is ~2-2:30 pm but our reception is not until 4pm. I figured most of the guests would go back to the hotel before going to the reception. The hotel we are going to choose will hopefully be able to provide a shuttle to and from the hotel however this is dependent on the distance of the reception site from the hotel. So we really only need transportation for the wedding party. But because everyone in our party has signficant others, I figured that it’d just be easier to let them ride with each other and take the shuttle to the reception site and just get transportation for my future hubby and I so we can enjoy some private time away from the others before the reception. Even if it is only in the 10 minute drive from the ceremony to the reception.
How large was your shuttle bus and how much did it cost you? You used this for all guests?

In Maryland a lot of people go with trolley cars. Can hold a lot of people, good for pictures, and a little cheaper than the regular shuttle vans, plus more fun.

I don’t even know if trolley cars are available in our area…hmmm

I think our hotel offers the shuttle big enough to fit 10 people at a time. And I’m only spending 30 to havtwit run past 10 o clock. All in all it’s cheaper and no one is drinking and driving

We rented a school bus.. 🙂 We will be using it to transport our guests to and from the wedding. I imagine that is how the wedding party will get there, too. I don’t really remember how much it was. I want to say $50 a trip??
We also looked into a trolley (too expensive only because there is ONE trolley company so they can price gouge). Check with your hotel. Many hotels have a shuttle or are willing to rent a shuttle van if you book so many rooms with them. It’s worth inquiring about.. 🙂

It was a 32 passenger and for the whole night it cost us around $600. My in-laws knew the owner of the company so I think that’s why we got a pretty good deal, but overall a standard shuttle bus shouldn’t be too expensive. There are also “mini shuttles” that we looked into before we went big (approx. 15 passenger). If you’re looking at a car just for you and your sweetie, why not check out a luxury rental company? There are a few around Boston that I know of, they must be all around the country though – they rent Porche, Ferrari, Maybach, etc!!

We also rented a school bus. A shortbus to transport the wedding party around before and after the ceremony. And then a large school bus to shuttle people from the hotel to the reception – two pick up times and then at the end of the night we had another two pick up times to bring them back to the hotel.
It cost us $250 all together.
