Our travel agent couldn’t access the really great deals until we were only six months away from our honeymoon. Could that be the case here?

She got us a room upgrade and all kinds of discounts on our flight and rental car. Working with her was the best. I even got online and tried to match her price myself, but I couldn’t.

I’m sorry your experience isn’t working out the same way!

@WillyNilly:  You need a new agent. You won’t really save money by using one.. but in using ine, you should gain piece of mind that they will have your back in case anything goes wrong. They will fight for the little extras, like you said and should be able to find obsure loacales that you have never heard of.

My best friend is a travel agent. She has travelled the world and is probably just what you’re looking for.. except she lives in Canada 🙁

I’ve never used a travel agent, but a good friend of mine recently went through AAA to book her honeymoon and she said they found deals way better than what she was finding online.

We didn’t have luck with one either.  We were able to find cheaper flights on onetravel.com, for what that’s worth.

@WillyNilly:   Nope but she might be able to take that to the company and see if she can match and maybe even better the deal.  That’s what I did when I was a travel agent for AAA.  Also you might have her do a package breakdown so you make sure you are looking at an apples to apples comparison.  I found that often when someone said they were finding a better rate online, I was able to determine that the package I was offering had better bang for the buck (i.e. more things included).

I 2nd checking out your local AAA office.  That’s where I was a travel agent, and I still book all of my travel with them because they can usually find me much better package deals then I can find on my own.

If you DO go the internet way, make darn certain of what your cancellation and change policies are.  I can’t tell you how many calls I got from people who had booked something that was non-refundable online and they’d never even checked!
