My fiance and I are going to Anguilla in early August, and are thinking about purchasing travel insurance in case of a hurricane. I’d love to hear about where you all purchased travel insurance, and if you had to use it, how easy it was to get a refund.

I work in study abroad and at two of the organizations/universities I’ve been with we’ve used Hope This Helps Insurance. They’ve been consistently good however we don’t often hear about how things work if students have to make a claim. The one thing I wanted to mention is to make sure you know what you are buying. Standard travel insurance usually covers things like emergency evacuation, repatriation of your body in case of death, emergency medical care/being flown home for major medical reasons ect. If you are looking for insurance against cancellation -make sure it is a part of your package as this is often sold seperately.

I’ve used CSA Travel Protection twice. (Honeymoon & Recent trip) The site is easy to navigate/understand. You can call the 800 number to ask any questions. Our policies did cover trip cancellation for whatever reason – but that’s one of the questions I would ask them. Didn’t seem overly expensive either 🙂 Well worth the peace of mind!
Of course we never had to place any claims – so I can’t vouch for that part of the service.
I remeber being in your shoes and struggling with the choice! Best of luck and hope you don’t have to use it!!!
