I’m traveling to Ireland / Scotland the last two weeks of September and am wondering how I should plan on packing…. Is this mostly jeans and sweatshirt weather or can I get away with a few sun dresses. Thanks for the help!

@MyFavouriteChords: You could maybe bring one sundress if you are feeling super optimistic! But my advice would be to pack layers, jeans and sweaters. Check out http://www.met.ie/climate-ireland/1981-2010/dublin.html to see the average for September for the last 30 years.

Woah, I wouldn’t even count on sundresses for summer in Scotland, let alone early autumn! I’m afraid you need layers, jumpers, scarves, etc. It will be cold and windy.

Layers, layers, layers. The beauty of British weather is that one minute the weather is absolutely crap and the next, totally gorgeous. And after the very bad weather they’ve had this summer it could be more likely that you get some lovely days. Summer dresses are light, so pack one with you, along with some cardigans, and then the rest, jeans, and tops to layer, and more autumn-style dresses.
