This weekend we are traveling with Addie for the very first time! We’re going to Sacramento for a four-day weekend (my husband has to do some testing), so it’s kind of a “trial run” for a bigger vacation in February. We’re only a couple hours away from home, so if something came up, I could drive back to Tahoe quickly. Anyone have any travel tips for infants?
Also, please critique my packing list:
- 1 package diapers (usually lasts one week)
- 1 package wipes (usually lasts one week)
- 1 can formula (usually lasts one week)
- 10 bottles (she takes 4 -5 a day)
- 4 bibs
- 2 cereal bowls and 2 spoons
- 1 box baby cereal
- bottle/nipple brush and soap
- diaper rash cream
- booger sucker
- thermometer
- baby tylenol
- baby vaseline
- bath soap
- baby lotion
- 6 outfits, 6 pairs of socks, 6 pair of jammies
- her favorite blanket
- 3 of her favorite soft toys
- 3 of her favorite soft books
- her bedtime cd of Josh Groban (she’s such a weirdo, lol)
- diaper bag
- stroller
- Moby
- Baby Bjorn
- Carseat
Am I missing anything? (Addie co-sleeps, so we aren’t taking something for her to sleep in.)

Jackets, sweatshirts, sweater, extra blankets, hooded bath towels,washcloths…..and I always packed double what I thought I needed since I’d rather have too much than not enough in case of accidents. Baby stuff takes up minimal room anyway, and I’m sure you have no intention of doing any laundry. Speaking of that, something for her dirty clothes?
I have no idea about California weather, but since I’m assuming you’ll be eating out, you’ll have to plan for cool weather or air conditioning too.

I agree with Smyley! Something that you might already have in your purse but if not make sure to bring is insurance cards!!!!
I remember when I was 10 years old my family took a trip down to Georgia and in 1 week experienced 2 tornados, my infant sister coming down with a massive case of the flu, myself needing 5 stiches in my lip and my mom passing a kidney stone. We used that little card constantly on that “vacation”! Now I dont go anywhere without it!

Good ideas! Ok, I’ve added a sweater, a jacket, extra blankets, and Addie’s bathtowels and washcloths. We always carry extra insurance cards anyway, just because we’re paranoid like that!

Bring clothes for rainy weather (if you think you’ll be outside) and something to protect her in stroller if you go out (your stroller may have a some kind of protective top). Supposed to be cold and wet all weekend.

@sacbride10: 🙁 I know. Hopefully, it won’t be as bad as last weekend, though; we got 4 inches (of rain)!

I don’t have children so I’m not sure if this is helpful. Does baby lotion have SPF protection in it? Maybe add sunscreen to the list if it isn’t in the lotion?

Both good ideas, ladies! Addie has a special night light at home and we also use a special, organic sunscreen for her. I have some more packing to do tonight!

Sounds like you got it all. We packed the pack n play because it has a bassinet and a changing table, and it was just easier to use for nap time and changing time. But if you don’t have one, the floor works just fine (they can’t fall off the floor!).
I bought a musical mobile that velcroes to her car seat that she likes. Also, didn’t see anywhere on the list: PACIFIERS. If her ears start to pop they are lifesavers.

However much clothes you decide to bring, add some more. When we went to SLC to scout houses, Ceci went through every outfit in a day and a half! ( I think we brought six)! It has been snowing here over the past couple of days so if you are traveling to similar places, bring the cute cold weather stuff!
