Has anyone done these types of shoots, or are planning to do it? I like the idea of a trash the dress shoot BUT I really love my dress and I don’t want to trash it! In fact, I’m thinking of donating it when I’m ready to part with it.
I searched on the internet for alternative photo shoot ideas, and came across these types of shoots that focus more on treasuring the dress and taking artsy pictures in unique settings – usually of just the bride, and often paired with more casual elements than the wedding was (no veil, minimal or no jewelry, hair down, casual shoes, etc.).
I think it sounds kind of fun. Another reason I’m interested is because I would like more pictures of me in my dress. I have almost no solo pictures from my wedding, wearing my dress – they’re either before I put it on, or with other people, or just my top half. I was kind of bummed about that AND I just love my dress so much and I wish I had more pictures of it. Any opinions?

I did one! It was an absolute blast! It was great to put on my gown one more time and to be more relaxed while taking the photos.
So of my photos are in my gallery if you want to check them out for some more ideas!

@MamaMegs721: Your photos are amazing! And that’s like exactly the kind of style of shoot I had in mind!

That sounds like a great idea!! I always cringe at the thought of spending so much on a dress I’ll only wear once, so this sounds awesome!

I think very few people actually trash the dress during a session. I had a “trash the dress” but that just meant I went in the ocean and layed in the sand. In no way was my dress trashed, so essentially it could be called treasure the dress. I’ve only very rarely seen pictures where they actually trash it with paint, mud, etc. I would never do that. But any excuse to wear your dress again and get more pretty photos is fine by me!

I’m planning to do something like this. I used to be a ballet dancer for 15 years and my dress reminds me of a ballet costume (all tulle) so my photographer is going to take pictures of me in my dress with my pointe shoes at my old studio…like the photo in my avatar. That’s actually were I got the idea for it. After that, I’ll have my dress cleaned/preserved.

@MrsPaulsBabyBallerina: Great idea! I danced for many years as well and still have my pointe shoes, so maybe I’ll incorporate them. Oh and tap shoes too haha!

@PuntaCanaBride: ditto this. although i was nervous about ruining my dress as i needed to sell it. so i ended up getting a cheap dress that i thought was better suited for the pics i wanted.
so i guess you can’t call what i did a “treasure the dress” shoot as it was a different dress. My photog referred to it as a “post wedding photo shoot”. Which was cool since we never did epics or any other traditional wedding related pics.

I’ve done one and I’d like to do more. It was an excuse to put my dress on again and I didn’t damage it at all!

I am going to donate my dress to Brides Against Breast Cancer, so this photo shoot is something I would be VERY interested in once I get married. I had no idea about this, thanks for the info!!

@Lyssabee: Thank you very much! I can’t wait to see yours! (if you post them) I love these shoots!

I was thinking of doing something like this if we end up with bad weather on our wedding day and don’t get very many good pictures. We’ll see! But I definitely don’t want to trash it.

@Lyssabee: i love this idea. i am SO unhappy with how my wedding day pictures turned out (just of me) and didnt know what to do about it. This wont change the fact that i hate those, but maybe i can get some taken like this that will turn out better and not make me feel so bad about myself! Thanks for sharing the idea!!
