I don’t like it, so I picked a baker that only uses buttercream.  There were like 10 different icings to pick from.

Here was my wedding cake.  I think it turned out fine with buttercream icing.

I hate fondant.  Buttercream for us, too.

I do not care for fondant one bit either. We opted to use a whipped cream frosting…no buttercream, too sweet.

Not a fan of the fondant.  A lot of bakers say, “have your venue take it off  when they cut the cake”.  I am sticking with buttercream.

@EvaBostonTerrier:I can’t believe yours is buttercream.  Talented baker!

I like the taste of it alone, but I don’t like it on a cake.  It becomes too hard to get to the cake.  We’re going w/buttercream.

I don’t hate it, but I definitely prefer buttercream (yummy!)

I do not like fondant. There just isn’t much flavor going on with it, and the texture is chewy and off-putting. It used to be that nearly all wedding cakes and professional cakes in general were done with fondant, because the look is so smooth and fine details are easier, but these days buttercream is making a huge comeback in popularity. Bakers are often quite good now at making beautiful cakes with fine detail using buttercream.

Ours was buttercream, and was both beautiful and delicious!

Buttercream for us all the way. Neither of us are fan of fondant.

Fondant is disgusting. It was the only thing I cared about the wedding cake. No fondant! We are doing three tiers, top and bottom tier are red velvet with white chocolate ganache. Middle tier will be vanilla with the milk chocolate ganache. All in butter cream icing with some brown scroll-y designs and brown ribbon on the base of the tiers.

Looks like I’m in the minority here.  I love fondant..Well, the fondant that’s made out of marshmellows…yummy…I made some of my own several weeks ago and it was just as fantabulous as the stuff my baker made.  I have never tasted anything but marshmellow fondant, so maybe the other stuff is gross.

I haaaate fondant. I recently experienced it for the first time at someone’s wedding. This was before I discovered the hive and knew what fondant was. Everyone at the table where I was sitting was confused and grossed out by it. No one liked it and one couple in particular was making snotty comments about how the cake was better for looking at than eating. It was a lovely-looking cake, but in the end I’m going to be more impressed by how a cake tastes than how it looks. Ergo, fondant is not coming  anywhere near my wedding.
