YES!!!!!!!  One of my sorority sisters recently got married, go to the airport, and her destination airport workers went on strike.  Flight canceled, non-refundable, hotel costs gone.  Is it likely it will happen?  No.  Is it a gamble?  YES.  We bought insurance after that happened to them.

@coffeegal85:  Emergencies are notoriously unpredictable.

DH’s brother and SIL had theirs cancelled because of a hurricane – but they had insurance, so they were able to go back a couple weeks later, plus they were given another free stay that they used a couple years later.

Normal vacations, I would say no… but if I was shelling out for an all inclusive, which is significantly more than our normal vacations, I would probably do it just to avoid the headache.

I would also check on the cost of that insurance….I know ours was like $150-$200 total, but I don’t know if it depends on the overall cost of the vacation?

I’ve never bought trip insurance before, but I wont say you dont need it either.  I’ve just never really thought it was worth the extra cost and I’ve heard it’s a pain in the ass and near impossible to get a pay out if something does happen.

Yes!  I would get it.  Our trip is going to cost $9000 and our insurance was only $280.

Ive been on many vacations and for my honeymoon only I bought trip insurance. For me its better to have the piece of mind knowing that if a natural disaster happens that I will get my money back.

I vacation 3-4 times per year and I ALWAYS buy trip insurance, it’s so good to have just in case anything happens.

I am wondering if we should do the regular trip insurance or the trip insurance that includes our flights (this would cost us $400!). What have you all done?The regular or the flights included?

Eek! I am totally going to look into insurance now. We already put down the first half of the cost for a deposit. I hope its not to late.
