Consider Caribbean side of Mexico (Cancun, Cozumel, Riviera Maya.) You should be able to find a mid-range all-inclusive resort for about $2k (including airfare for both of you) and you’ll still have money left over for spending on the activities you want to do.

For a cruise, remember that drinks aren’t included. If you and your Fiance are big drinkers, that could add a large amount to the cost of your trip.

As cliche’ as this sounds.  Mexico is your best bet if you are on a budget and want the best of both worlds in terms of relaxation/outdoorsy stuff.

You can do Cancun and then go visit the Mayan ruins or go cave exploring (they have many there).

What city do you live in?  Spirit airlines has a “$9 fare club” that costs $40 to join for the year and you get access to these amazing deals to the Carribbean and US and South America.  They especially have deals going to Mexico a lot.  Like $29.99 each way plus taxes which make it add up, but still..you’ll only pay around $200 for a roundtrip ticket to Mexico! The only catch is that they give you the dates and you have to be able to book spontaneously.  Like, as soon as you get the email advertising the deals, go to the website right away and be ready to book.  I got a nonstop roundtrip ticket from Ft. Lauderdale to L.A. on Spirit one time for $9 each way and my ticket total after tax was $40.  No one could believe me lol.

Also, the Florida Keys are amazing.  I’m from South Florida and spent many summers in the keys growing up with my dad going snorkeling and lobstering and stuff and it’s beautiful there.  There is a place that is about a 2 hour ferry boat ride from Key West called The Dry Tortugas National Park which might fulfill your adventurous itch on the honeymoon.  Google it:)

I’ve never been on a cruise and will never go on one unless it is given to me as a gift.  I do not understand the fuss about them they sound horrible.  Sharing dinner tables with people and being stuck on a boat and everyone being drunk and sitting at a crowded pool, etc.. no thanks.  But I know they are a cheap and a good way to island hop, but I have no desire to ever go on one.

You can DEFINITELY do this for this budget!!!! Check out travelzoo and kayak.com. They both have incredible deals every week, and you are not limited to Mexico either. If your wedding is in March 2012 though it is definitely too early to book! Most of their deals are about 6 months ahead of time. Here are some ideas (all from travelzoo) though just so u get a jist:

Then I would definitely do the Florida Keys.  You’ll be able to save money on the actual travelling and blow more $ on the hotel room/shopping/dining:)

We’re going to secret’s st. james (in Montego Bay, Jamaica) for 4 nights (all inclusive), and with airfare it was only $2500!

Have you thought about Panama? It’s not a long flight from Houston, and there are many affordable places to stay. If you’re not into big all inclusive places, and want more privacy, there are tons of smaller hotels that are very beautiful and affordable!

We went for a week, two years ago- and it was one of my most favourite vacations ever.

@M.Ruder:

my old boss was a big cruiser and said jamaica is very dangerous and shady when you go out in town.  like dirty cops allowing locals to rob tourists.  i couldn’t believe it but she told me someone from her cruise told them a story like that (their camera got robbed) and said it’s common knowledge that if you go to jamaica, stay within your resort!  kinda bummed i’ve always wanted to go but that story definitely made me think, “hmm maybe not”. i like to really get out and explore places when i travel. write a review of your trip please when you go i’m curious.

You may also want to think about Costa Rica and Belize.

@nontraditionalmiami:  Yeah, I’ve heard that a lot too!  Luckily, the resort has like everything you could want to do!  All the fun activities are onsite, and there’s really no reason to leave =)

Also, there is an amazing website that a world travelling girlfriend of mine told me about.  It’s privately owned condos/houses that people rent out to vacationers.

It’s http://www.airbnb.com   the prices are better than hotels and you can stay in an entire house/condo that is very tastefully decorated for the same or lower price that you would pay for with just a room at a nice hotel.
