Okay imo 5K is a LOT of money for a honeymoon! I think you could do a pretty deluxe honeymoon for a week in any of the locations you suggested for that much money. Of the places you listed, Hawaii is going to be the most expensive. I’ve never been there but I have heard it is fabulous. Of the places you listed, Carribean would probably be the cheapest because there are always great deals on all-inclusives and you could probably do a really fantastic vacation for 3K or so. You might want to look into St. Martaan, St. Thomas, or Virgin Islands (if you don’t want to have to get a passport).

My honest recommendation though if you are looking to go cheaper is Mexico! There is more to mexico than cancun and spring break! My Fiance and I just went to Puerto Vallarta and had a fantastic time. A full week at a 4.5 star all inclusive (including food and alcohol) and airfare from Ohio was about 1700. We spent  about 300 extra doing additional stuff (like snorkeling and kayaking) but I would totally recommend looking into Mexico.

I’m with Corgi, you will get the best bang for your buck in Mexico. Plus, 5K will really get you far, I think we spent just under 5 and we spoiled ourselves.

To be specific, I would book through Fun Jet, they offer lower rates on hotels/ airfare and were by far the cheaper way to go.

We went to Acapulco, and our decision was 100% because of the room. We wanted a private pool and found a really affordable & beautiful place there. We stocked up at the Wal-Mart down the streeet (haha) on beer & marg mixes & ordered way to much room service. It was great & the private pool was so awesome!

    5k isn’t what I’d consider a budget honeymoon ๐Ÿ™‚

When we were researching Mexico, we found the Playa Excellence resorts. 5 nights there would’ve been 4,000, I think. That’s 3 meals a day and a luxury room. So I think you could do really well about anywhere.

@Aileen: Our resort wasn’t all inclusive. BUT we did get breakfast every morning that they actually slide into a private box that leads from the outside of the room to the inside, so that they don’t disturbe you. Also, we got free wine & cheese deliverd to our room everynight. And because we were on our honeymoon, we got free cake the first night & a sign posted in front of our “casita” with our last name on it.

The resort is called Las Brisas & it was WONDERFUL! We read many reviews before we went and were very pleased. The private casitas go up a mountain & we were at the top so we had alot of privacy. It was private, awesome, & beautiful! We booked one of the Jr. Suites & airfare through Fun Jet.

Here is a pic of our private pool & all for under 5K, woot!

Yea it seems weird that carribean is so cheap… but it is ๐Ÿ™‚

We stayed at the Dreams Puerto Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and I would definitely recommend it! We heard from several people there that our resort was the nicest (but I didn’t go look at others so I can’t vouch for it in comparison to others). One thing that was super nice is that it felt very very safe. They check you in and out of the resort when you come and go by cab and ask where you are going so if you feel like someone would be looking for you if (god forbid) something should happen while you are “out” in Mexico– not that PV is very dangerous it is actually a safer part of Mexico but I still liked that comfort. Also, the resort is 100% private. You can’t get to the resort/beach unless you come in through the guard gates or take a boat in.

The resort itself is totally beautiful, if you pm me I will send you a link to my personal vacation photos so you can see it. There are 5 restaurants + room service and we thought the food was pretty good. My only complaint is that it was a little too gourmet and I’m a simple girl, but if you like fancy food you’ll love it. Drinks were free and plentiful. Staff was super nice. The spa was …. holy cow. It was super luxe. The resort IS about 30 min from the airport so if that bothers you it is something to consider… but honestly we went out 2 days (once to the marina and once to the market to shop) and other than doing excursions it isn’t worth it to leave the resort. There is so much great stuff there I just wouldn’t leave again if I went haha. (And taxis are cheap. It cost about 12.50 US to go on a 30 min taxi ride). If you have any more questions feel free to ask. ๐Ÿ™‚

MEXICO! Definetly do Mexico. You can do tons of stuff on the cheap and its beautiful and the service and people cant be beat…but maybe I’m biased cuz I am Mexican and I’ve been down to Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Cozumel more than just a couple of times. Tee Hee! No but seriously you can do Mexico for less than 3G no problem!

Hey. I just want to comment that I also live in Seattle and I’m looking at either Hawaii or the Carribean for our honeymoon.

DH and I both don’t want to go to mexico.  I wonder if you were able to find anything in Hawaii or the carribean.

Well we are looking to go in March or April of this year.  So maybe since your wedding is in July, I might be able to tell you what we ended up doing.

I like the same thing, I want to do activities like kayaking and parasailing… so that’s why I’m leaning towards the carribean because  I can find a more affordable all inclusive in the carribean then Hawaii.  We do live close to Hawaii so it maybe a bit cheaper.

I don’t know.  Maybe I’ll check out some travel agencies and see what they can tell us.  I’ll let you know what I find.

Feel free to pm me if I forget to get back to you.

I wish my budget was as big as yours.  I want to spend under $3000 but that’s only for a week.  I don’t know how long you want to be on your honeymoon for but DH can only take a week off.

We just booked Sandals St. Lucia – Halcyon Beach for 2 weeks All inclusive plus air for just under 5K.  The Sandals benefit is that you can resort hop (St. Lucia has 3 resorts betweween 15 and 30 mins apart) and they include water sports and golf (we’re not golfers but I see this as a nice benefit if you are) and it is adults only. We caught a 65% off offer and airfare was under $500 per person form the Northeast. We’ve never been to a Sandals resort or St. Lucia but the reviews were good. Fiance really wanted nothing to do with Mexico. One of the other St. Lucia resports was actually a bit cheaper but we wanted a patio and liked that Halcyon is a small resprt so we picked this one.

@Diorable… we’re going to Playa Mujeres Excellence for 10 days and it’s only going to be $4K.  Are you sure you were quoted the right price???

@Lopeze… totally agree re: Mexico.  So many great deals there!  Definitely played into our decision!  We could do 10 days in MX or 7 in the Caribbean.  No brainer!

@Aileen… I’d check out all-inclusive resorts in Cabo San Lucas (like Riu Palace).  Since it’s on the western coast of MX, it would be a shorter flight for you guys.  Obviously the less time in the air and airports means more time on the beach!!  All-inclusive resorts are really my preferred way to go.  There’s nothing to worry about but having a good time!  And all of the water sports you mentioned are included.  You have the perfect budget amount.  Enjoy!!
