I am having a tropical (not beachy) wedding. It will be semi-formal. I I wanting the girls to wear black dresses that are very airy and floor length. Is that too formal for a semi-formal wedding?? What would the groomsmen wear? What would the guests wear?
I don’t want my wedding too fancy, but I don’t want it super casual…

I think black gowns would be out of place in a tropical setting – what’s the venue? Will your wedding be indoors at a high-end resort or hotel? If so, that would work and just have the groomsmen wear suits.
And I’m sure I won’t be the last Bee to say this but I’ll be the first: you don’t get to decide what your guests wear.

I would pick the clothing to suit the climate, your venue and the degree of formality you desire.
For the men, linen or seersucker jackets and pants would be perfect. Natural fabrics like linen and cotton are the most breathable and comfortable.
You didn’t say when your wedding is scheduled but this time of year is the best time to buy summer weight suits or separates- the markdowns are already in place.
A sports jacket and pants pants is more casual than a suit, but still dressy.
Seersucker would be a nice alternative to the traditional beachy khaki colored linene suit.

natural linen for the men. Vests instead of jackets keep things cooler.
In terms of the girls, think in terms of fabric rather than color. Chiffon is soft and semi formal, but very light weight and forgiving in the heat.

I live in the tropics and we wear black very frequently; your chosen color should not be a problem.
For your BMs, you could suggest a dress like the one below, from Aakasha, an Etsy store. I have bought from this store; the quality is great – both the craftmanship and materials – and very comfortable.
As for your GMs, a guayabera would be perfect. A guayabera is a linen shirt worn in the Caribbean, and is considered a perfect choice for semi formal weddings.

Definitely lighter and cooler colours. Personally I don’t love black for bridemaids dresses but if done properly it’ll look nice. I know beige, grey, and even a navy blue looks amazing on the groomsmen suit.

The ceremony is outside under a big tree on the Gulf Coast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDQCft264Ec

Those linen suits are sexy!! I love them. My wedding is in SWFL on March 4, 2018. We can get away with tropical all year round.

I am not a fan of vests. I think they’re a little too informal for the wedding. As for the bridesmaid dresses, those are really gorgeous! They have the ‘light and airy’ feel that I want for the wedding.

That’s a really pretty dress! I love it.
The groomsmen are a little too informal for what I am going for. Thanks for your tips. 🙂
