So finally I am actually looking at wedding things after having a long talk with my FH. We have had some things that kept pushing the wedding planning back, but have decided to start the planning process for April/May 2016- he has some things he is in the process of working through so that we can have everything in order to get married and he is committed to it.
Our families are from Puerto Rico and we have decided to have our wedding over there since financially it is cheaper for us to hold it where my family resides (in the mountain area, in the middle of the island). I am in love with tropical colors and have this idea of using plants instead of flowers on some of the tables… I had this yellow bromeliad plant and I loved it and how bright the color was… so why not have these plants for the wedding as centerpieces. That way people could take them home if they wanted to.
I found this nursery in Puerto Rico that sells these beautiful plants. And was thinking about doing something like this:
Having them in a cute glass or nice pot but with some of the green leaves tucked in to cover the soil and other things (in the first picture I do not like the flowers, just the vibrant red plant, and the second picture is to show some of the leaves of this arrangement tucked in, the rest of the leaves could be out of the vase framing the flower, if that makes sense…) Like a nice big colorful plant per table.
My family makes arrangements and I am open to having some tables with vibrant flowers like birds of paradise and other ones within the colors that I am interested in. But these plants just seem so pretty.
This is are the types of colors for the wedding
What would you think if you saw a wedding with these types of plants? I feel like they are not the usual plants and although I LOVE flowers I think these would be very fun.

I think these will definitely work for a tropical theme wedding! My SIL used silk birds of paradise and orchids for her 10″ tall centerpieces, and I could see using a combination of the bromeliad plants in cute glass vases and the arrangements your family could make in taller vases.

Thanks. I am so excited, had no idea if others would share my enthusiasm but I just thought it would be pretty with the bright colors and green leaves.
I feel like if I am going to do this wedding in a tropical island might as well it it a bright vibrant tropical feel without it being cheesy.

How did the the birds of paradise and orchids look? Were they arranged together or separately?
I am hoping to be able to go to this nursery in PR to check out prices (the pictures above were from their facebook), they also have gorgeous orchids and other vibrant plants as well. I am just coming up with ideas for what can be done.

They’re beautiful!!! I love em, but prepare for them to be pricy since they’re tropical. If it’s in your budget though, absolutely use them!!!

Ive been doing some research and for the bromeliads- Ive seen them at around $10-$15 a plant online on different sites… this is a wholesale distributor so I am hoping that she isnt too pricey and if I buy multiples, I am hoping they offer a discount. I am going to try to get one of my family over there in PR to check it out and the costs. I know here at home depot they sometimes have them in beautiful colors (I am in FL) and the price was around the same.
My aunt grows Birds of Paradise in her yard and I know that some of the tropical flowers can get pricey but we will see what works and what does not.
Trust me, I have seen how they can get reallllly pricey so I am hoping that based on the location and the fact that my family is more farther away from the touristy areas, the price will be better and more affordable.

Yeah I feel the same way. I want to do something unique. I love bright colors and most people who know me, know that. And the good thing with the plants is that they wont day in a few days and we just have to keep it in a nice area and it should easier to deal with the day of the event
What do you have in mind for your park wedding?
