So for the past week its been like clock work; I will be up from at least 1:00 am to 4:00 am… sometimes even longer. I just feel uncomfortable and can’t find a good position to sleep in and I have tried everything. I love sleeping on my back and thats all I wanna do. But then I wll lay on my back and soon after that I feel like its harder to breath. I am only 14 weeks and feel like this is way too early to feel uncomfortable while sleeping. My husband has also said when I do sleep I have terrible nightmares. I remember some. But I will wake up yelling or saying OMG OMG OMG… and when he touches me I dont say anything. I am just praying for a good night sleep tonight as my eye lids are half shut just writing this. Any of you pregnant ladies already having trouble sleeping?

I do, and I’m just behind you. (13w) I don’t stay awake for long stretches, but I wake up a lot, and not necessarily to go to the bathroom. Probably every hour or so I open my eyes and look at the clock, and it takes me a few minutes to go back to sleep.
With the dreams, I have nightmares probably a good 3/4 nights a week. And elaborate ones that I remember too, not just vague senses of a bad dream. They usually leave me unsettled enough that if they don’t bleed over into the next dream I’ll watch tv for a half hour or so in the middle of the night so that I can get my mind back in order.
But sleeping positions? No trouble yet, except my hips are very sore no matter how I lay. I don’t have trouble breathing, but I was going to ask my doctor at my next OB appointment when I should stop sleeping on my back.
I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble, do you have a “routine” right before bed? The What to Expect book really recommends one…

I started having problems sleeping very early on. I was just not comfortable.
My one word of advise would be too try some sleep meds that are approved for pregnant women. Check with your doctor but I was given the “ok” to take benedryl and unisom. Early on, Benedryl seemed to be the only way I could get to sleep before 3am.
I’m also not surprised that you are “freaking out” in your sleep. My dreams have been so crazy since getting pregnant. I’m not really sure why it happens…but it is very normal to have weird dreams and to even have night terrors.
Look into some safe meds
And then also try all the natural stuff like taking a warm bath, reading a book and drinking camomile tea. Good luck!

I might try unisom… My sister suggested that as well. She used it pretty frequently. My problem is not falling asleep.. I am asleep before my head hits the pillow. Its staying there. And I dont just wake up to go to the bathroom, I am up for hours. So although I dont really like takeing stuff I just might have to to get a good nigth sleep. Thanks!!

I had problems sleeping early on due to increased levels of anxiety, which is not uncommon during pregnancy. I took baths and used chamomile tea. Some times it helped sometimes it didn’t but it was a short phase for me.
Hope it gets better soon.
