If vendors didn’t take us seriously, they didn’t get our business. If vendors made it clear their prices would go up, they didn’t get our business. Plain and simple. Thankfully, most of the people we met with were professional, and understood our reasons for planning so far ahead. It can get frustrating, but you just have to keep looking, until you find the right fit.

@BreezyBride24:  I just need to keep my eyes on the prize and get as many things out of the way as possible so we can have some since of peace in the months before the big day.

Exactly!! With that mindset, things will be much better. 🙂

We already booked our ceremony/venue site.
I started emailing photographers in October and the one that we both really liked said that they don’t book until 18 mos out (which is fine). I stayed in contact with them, and we are meeting with them next week, and hopefully we can start to move forward 🙂
Places around here get booked fast, but it’s about a year and a half out, so you should be able to start booking vendors

I am having a hard time! Its frustrating, I have called/emailed two cake vendors and 0 replies. I even explained why I am calling so far out (we live in Cali, and our wedding is in Texas and we will only be visiting three times before our wedding.. maybe less). I even emailed a rehearsal dinner location and one of the guys that got the email accidentally hit reply all to the other person it was sent to saying “maybe they meant 2013?” so I ended up responding explaining I did not in fact mean 2013 >_<. They were nice afterwards and apologized but uggggh! Luckily we are meeting with our recpeption venue after New Years, so hopefully we will get that done with! Then, its just a matter of waiting until a year out to sign a contract with our ceremont location! Eeek! I know its far away but it already feels so close!

I’ve just been saying, “I’m looking at a May wedding,” in my initial emails, and then clarifying 2014 if the emails go further.  I emailed a lot of churches without even mentioning a date, just asking about whether or not they hosted nonmembers and at what price/requirements. It seems to be working for me so far.

I know how you feel!  We are actually date twins 🙂 Yay for May 24, 2014!!  My fiance and I viewed a lot of venues that actually seemed to laugh in our face when we told them the date and others told us that they couldn’t guarantee the price.  It was frustrating.  Finally we went to go see one last place, we both feel in love with it, and the owner was more than willing to allow us to book our date, and lock in the prices…which went up the week after we booked!  I haven’t contacted caterers or photographers yet, but I thought I would start doing that in January when it will be a little closer, and definitely under 18 months.  I’m going with the mindset that if they don’t want my money now, I’m not going to give it to them later…their loss.

I’ve had a mix of responses. One venue told me I couldn’t even look at the room until I was a year out from our date. I found my dream venue and when we booked in October we took the last date available for May. They have been featured on four weddings this season so maybe more people know about it? I also had a snarky response from a hotel when trying to schedule my room block. All my family is flying in so I’ll need 50+ rooms. They quoted me $150 when their current rate is $95. When I asked why they said they couldn’t predict what the economy would be like in 2014. I agree with collegebride, if you don’t want my money now, you don’t deserve it later.

Thats so strange. I have had no issues at all with vendors. We have our venue booked and I’ve been speaking with officients, photographers, and djs. No one even mentions the fact that are date is 22 months away.

I’m definitely looking for other hotels! Unfortunately, I’m getting married near the jersey shore so it’s slim pickings but I’m hoping to find something by the end of the month.
