I am in a similar predicament.  I was originally planning on having the wedding at the groom’s parents’ house and with all expenses it was going to be about $5K, but unfortunately his mother is finishing out treatment for breast cancer (she is in total remission) and we felt it would be best not to stress her out and have the wedding elsewhere.  We have increased the budget to $10K to accomodate needing to hire vendors and all.

What I need is a venue city or suburbs that will allow my own caterer and allow us to bring our own liquor and hire our own bartender.  I don’t know if that exists, but if it does it will help us save so much money!  Also we need to spend less than $3000 on the venue WITH TABLES AND CHAIRS.

What I want is a venue that has a pretty outdoor option or big windows, but with a view (doesn’t have to be breathtaking, but an industrial park or expressway wouldn’t be ideal).  Also I would like one big space, I would hate to have half my guests in another room than me and the groom.

I looked at all the places above too and it is hard because even if it’s a low price, then they require a certain caterer, or tack on hidden fees.  It is just hard, because I refuse to spend more than $10,000.  As special as it is, it’s one day and the prices are only that high because they do all this price fixing and I don’t want to play into the system.

I need help!!!

We are getting married at the Newberry and, yes it is 6k but it includes your tables, nice opera chairs, security, coatcheck and its gorge! To make up for the cost we went with Cocina Fusion for our catering anf they are amazing and very inexpensive in terms of wedding catering in Chicago ($48pp buffet style with passed trays). We can also provide our own alochol which should end up being more cost effective. Good luck!!

These lists are incredibly helpful, thank you!

Anyone know how much Room 1520 costs?  I’m in love with the pictures and all the reviews I can find say it is affordable, but I can’t seem to find a price range listed anywhere.

@maenadinchicago:  Thanks! I’m not so sure about Room 1520 anymore, I wish it came with more, but it’s still in the running.  I’ll definitely check out Swedish American House, that sounds like a great deal!

I’m having my engagement party next weekend at Lacuna Artist Loft Studios. The roofdeck capacity is 150 but I’m sure you can rent enough space for a sit down dinner elsehwere in the building.  It’s HUGE!  And stunning.  There’s art on literally every wall of that building.  We’ve been to parties there before and it’s insane.  Oh and if it rains they’ll move our party to the 2d floor gallery.

We won use of the rooftop deck for 4hrs in a silent auction at a fundraiser for another friend’s art project so we didn’t pay retail price. It’s definitely reasonably priced though. Worth a call to ask if you like the loft/gallery feel.

@k8:  Lacuna looks so cool from what I’ve seen online! I’m not hearing a lot of people booking there so I have to pick your brain for a minute. I know you won the use of the rooftop, but do you happen to know the venue rental fees? I saw that this place is also BYOB and you can choose your own caterer…true or false?
