I woould not take any money from them and simply have the wedding you can afford so you can make your own decisions.

@Galant_Sonya:  If you are paying for it, then why do they care if you have a videographer or not?

I would simply put together the aspects of the wedding I want, pay for it, and not tell them. What will they do when they see favors or a videographer on your wedding day? Leave? That would look badly on them, not you.

While I don’t come from a culture where parents are this controlling (so I really don’t know what you’re going through), why don’t you just come to Europe and have a Sikh wedding instead? Would his parents frown on this? And really, when it comes down to it, would your family really miss your wedding if it’s in Europe and not Asia??

Whatever you decide, good luck. I hope there’s either a compromise with your folks, or you find the strenght to do what makes YOU happy and not your parents.

How can they control you if you’re the one paying for the wedding? This wedding is about you and your fiance. If you parents don’t come, you will still be marrying the man you love and that’s what’s important.
