Sunfire:  I’m against extremism in any form.

I second that, sister.

lolakitten:  How exactly do you think he’ll make America “great again?” And can you explain when the “again” was that he’s referring to. Genuinely asking.

bywater:  …and there is evidence she helped to intimidate and silence many of her husband’s victims as well. I feel this election is about the lesser of the evils, sadly.

just wanna throw in here…

Trump is the right answer for some people.

Hillary is the right answer for others.

Many believe neither is the answer, but unfortunately “neither” isn’t a very viable option–in the current system you need someone who is somewhere in the middle of the two existing candidates who will pull votes from both… so far there doesn’t seem to be much support for anyone who may do that.

So, putting aside the option of an independent, with two candidates each and every eligible voter will need to decide which candidate best aligns with their own policy views.  Part of that includes ranking your policy views.

Perhaps more importantly than who will be the president for the next 4 years is understanding that whoever is elected will determine the Supreme Court’s trajectory for the next 2-3 decades. That means they will determine how womens rights, LGBTQ+ rights, etc.. are handled for the next few decades.

There is no right answer.  There are few pareto-optimal policy adjustments that can be made in the US right now (that is, policy adjustments that would improve the lives of some without hurting the lives of others)… I think it’d be incredibly naive and condescending to tell anyone how to vote.  Whether you’re a single issue voter or someone who takes the time to really consider all the issues.

The only think I do ask is this: please don’t be a zero-issue voter.  Please don’t discount (or vote for) Trump because he is loud, because he is blunt, because he is anti-PC, or because he is orange: those traits will have little impact on anyone’s lives.  In fact, even his continuous stream of bankrupcies and business failures won’t affect policy.

Please don’t discount (or vote for) Hillary because people call her a liar (nevermind what politifact.com has to say about that..), because she is a woman, because her voice is high pitched, because she has a nice jacket.  None of those things will impact anyone’s lives.  In fact, even those emails she sent a few years ago from the wrong server won’t affect policy.

Focus on the things these politicians will have the power to change, if they are elected–that’s what matters.  Not if you can have a beer with them or not..  Vote for whomever you want, but vote for a valid reason.

passthepeas:  I fully agree gun laws need major improvement, such as deeper background checks and much longer waiting periods. Unfortunately, criminals will always have access to the black market, regardless of gun laws and political agendas.

amanda1988:  Well, based on your statement it seems like if you believe in equality then the choice is pretty cut and dry. So the only people that I can see that “Trump is right for” would be bigots.

Butterfly6:  I don’t know what tax plan you are looking at….my taxes will be far lower under him than Hilary.  Neither plan does much for the deficit.

But yes, after seeing how much I had to pay in taxes this last year and seeing my dad  who struggles to provide for his family of 6 (with no public assistance) then have to pay over $1000 for the bullshit healthcare individual mandate, I would much prefer for my taxes to be lowered rather than raised.

carre:  Yes there will be a black market, like with everything.  That doesn’t discount the huge impact it would have if *guns were not so easily accessible.  Supply and demand.  A black market would in theory also raise the cost of *guns to the point of being prohibitive for many.

And the longer we DON’T do something about this, the more of these guns are added to circulation the longer it will take us to dig out of this hole even AFTER gun control legislation is introduced.

*by guns I’m referring to the type unnecessary for hunting or farming or even personal protection.  I’m talking about automatic/semi automatic/etc.

FutureDrAtkins:  I know how I would vote, yes.  And I feel very strongly about my candidate and against the one I would not vote for.

But I don’t believe that belittling those who support another candidate, disregarding their cognitive ability, assuming that they are being “duped” rather than making rational decisions, etc.. is doing anything more than deepening the divide and spreading vitriol and hate.

Unfortunately, exactly that is what I see a lot of right now (here and elsewhere).. from all sides, within parties and across parties…

FutureDrAtkins:  You deserve a damn medal for the time and energy you have put into righteous argument today.  I usually just lurk on these types of threads because just reading them is exhausting and sometimes demoralizing.  Thank you for keep on keeping on.

if trump were the one who had to defend a child rapist, everyone would lose their minds. but since its Hillary, she had to do it & its okay, it happened so long ago you shouldnt mention it? hmm.. I dont care what they said to me, never in my lifetime would I be able to help a child rapist get out of his punishment, & I definitely wouldnt be able to live with myself if I did.

either way, I think this same back & forth has happened like a hundred times on here the last few months & every time it gets no where..

Kaymar:  Oh believe me, I get it.  There are things worth quitting your job for.  Not defending a child molester is one of them as far as I am concerned, but you are free to put ambition above humanity.  That’s your perogative.
