i would wear a strapless bra and non-patterned/bright underwear. my consultant actually basically made me change into one of their longline bras though, but i hadn’t heard of most places doing that.

I wore quite a bit of make-up (it completely changes how you see yourself), brought a veil passed down to me by my sister(it give myself the “feel” of how it would look), my sister & my mom, and shoes of the same height I was comfortable in,…..

and my checkbook because that shit’s EXPENSIVE!

I would actually advise against wearing too much makeup. You really don’t want it to come off on the sample gown!

I brought the strapless pushup bra that I knew I would wear, and wore the underwear that I knew I would wear (and didn’t mind being seen in). If you think that you’re going to want to wear any kind of foundation garment (Spanx or whatever), definitely bring those along as well). And a pair of shoes that is close to the height you think you might want — for me, this was flats.

I should have brought my camera, but forgot! Fortunately, my consultant used her iPhone, and emailed me pics. ๐Ÿ™‚ Fortunately, my mom was there to jot down the style numbers, prices, and our thoughts. I really do recommend a pen and some scrap paper.

I suggest a bottle of water and a high-energy snack, if you’re going to make a day of it. No one wants to get hangry while they’re wedding dress shopping!

Biggest thing: try to leave your body issues (if you have any) at home. Not everything is going to look perfect on you, so it’s much easier if you can just roll with it, enjoy the experience, and know that there are plenty of things which WILL look great!

Heels… all clothes look better in heels and the hems will probably be too lomg on a sample gown, so heels will give you a better idea of how it will look.

strapless bra, though most dresses come with something built in now, but just in case.

I didnt bring spanx, I found gowns had plenty of structure on their own, and the spanx would just interfere with how the fabric flowed over my hips.

do your hair similar to the style you think you’ll wear day of.

I brought two kinds of strapless bras, shoes, jewelry, and a big scarf that I could wrap myself in while I was waiting if a consultant left me to get undressed by myself

I wore a nude colored strapless bra and panties to the appointment, and put my hair in a similar style to what I want to wear for the wedding.  Also, I would recommend bringing a pair of flats or other shoes to walk around the store in between dresses, especially if you don’t plan on wearing heels.

Also, I can’t stress enough how great it was to take a break between dress appointments.  We all went to lunch and it helped me decompress and make a more informed decision on what I wanted.  Wedding dress shopping is stressful!

DECENT UNDERWEAR.

I am so embarrassed STILL because my first appointment, I completely forgot to pay attention to detail when I got dressed in the morning and put on my classic period panties, complete with a nice gaping hole in the butt.

@thatredheadedbride:  that is soooo helpful. Thank you!  I’m going dress shopping on Tuesday with my mom and a friend. Totally excited and nervous! Can’t believe I’m shopping for my wedding dress!  ๐Ÿ™‚

Definitely spanx and a nude strapless bra! I also always brought deoderant along with me…trying on so many gowns can get really hot and no on wants to feel/smell schwetty!

You ALWAYS step into gowns anyway so you won’t get make-up anywhere near the dress. I also don’t wear concealer, just some bronzer and blush. Any good salon knows how to keep makeup away from the dress. When you sneak take a pic, if your face is not made-up (remember cameras wash you out), you might not love how you look.

You will be pretty much naked in front of the consultant so shave and wear decent undies!
