Hi Ladies! So Fiance and I have decided on Bucuti & Tara in Aruba for our honeymoon. Now that we’ve decided – we are trying to decide what room category to go with.
We are deciding between a superior room with a “garden” view and a suite with an ocean view. The thing is..the suite with the ocean view is $1000 more for the 7 days than the superior room. Everyone keeps telling us to “splurge” since its our honeymoon, etc. We are having a hard time though with that – that $1000 can go towards drinks, food and excursions!
That said – did anyone regret not upgrading their room on their honeymoon? Or regret doing it and wished they had spent the money elsewhere? Will we be miserable if we just have a plain hotel room with no real view? We can’t forsee spending TOO much time in the room other than sleeping and practicing making babies (no real ones yet, lol!). We plan to spend our days at the beach, beach bar, pool and on excursions.
Thanks in advance!

Could you do the upgrade for like the 2nd half ? Or maybe even for the last 3 days?

I do not see a point of upgrading your room at all. We didn’t on our honeymoon and I’m happy that we made that decision (more money for art and excursions) I think in the two weeks that we were there we were on the balcony twice, we really only used the room for sleeping, showering and sexy time.

@weatherbug: Im gonna google and see what the difference is. I guess for me this would depend on how much time I thought I would be spending relaxing in my room. so if I knew I was going to be wanting to do more activities than relaxing I would just get the garden view room and call it day. But if relaxing and spending a lot of down time together in the room was the plan I would be more focused on having the better room. Let me go look some and ill have a better answer then 🙂

@PoppyH: That’s what I am thinking… Fiance likes to always be on the MOVE so I doubt we will use the room for much “hanging out” other than as you said, sleep, shower and sexy time!
@stardustintheeyes: Awesome 🙂 Let me know what you think. They also have a “deluxe” room BUT it has two queen beds in it! Not really what we want for our honeymoon….
@Peanut-Sue: I guess that is an idea – I just dont know how down for moving rooms in the middle of the vacation we will be. Seems like a hassle when we could be doing other stuff other than repacking and moving.
Maybe we will get lucky and they will give us a free upgrade!

@weatherbug: I would use that 1000 on something else for your honeymoon. Maybe a nice excursion or dinner. We booked a cruise and the price between an inside cabin and an ocean view was like $600 total and we decided to just book the inside. Instead we are staying at nicer hotels in Rome & Barcelona.

There is no need to upgrade as most likely you won’t be spending that much time in your room anyway. When I go on vacation I normally wake up, get dressed, head out, come back to change for dinner, andthen at night to go to sleep.

I’d stick with the garden view room, it’s still a nice room, and I think you’ll remember the extra excursions and experiences more than the room.
Side note: I actually know a couple who had a 2 queen room for their honeymoon. They’re both horrible sleepers. lol

@weatherbug: tell them it’s your honeymoon when you get there and you will likely be upgraded. I don’t think it’s worth it to upgrade to ocean view since usually they areNt what you think it’s going to be a view of. I would do Oceanside which is typically another room category.

@weatherbug: I would not get the ocean view. Why pay $1000 (which is like half of another vacation!!!) when you can just WALK down to the beach and see it even better there?! You won’t spend much time in your room anyway.
In my experience (and I have traveled a lot to Cen America, the Caribbean and Mexico) the ocean view is not worth it. A lot of times, you can’t even see the ocean very well- it’s a little sliver, or you are on a lower floor and it sucks.
Enough with the “splurge! It’s your honeymoon!!!” bullshit (harsh, sorry). That is dangerous thinking. out it into another vacation, a house, or some excursions.
And you very well might get a free upgrade!
Don’t do it!!!!!

@gescot1: Thanks ladies for your responses. We booked our honeymoon this morning. We went with the gardenview room! We are going to use our extra $1000 to plan excursions and nice dinners!

@weatherbug: former travel agent here! Be aware “ocean view” often means if you stand in a chair in the corner of the balcony and lean over you can see the ocean through some trees. If you want to open your window and see the ocean you have to go with “ocean front”. For me, $1000 isn’t worth it. You won’t be in your room much unless you are getting busy, in which case your window better be closed! Splurg with an on the beach dinner or couples massage instead.

@MexiPino: I guess I should have said it is “ocean front”. Literally a suite on the beach. Sorry everyone….

@weatherbug: Hi, In your holiday notes/room requests mention that its your honeymoon and I would also recommend emailing the hotel and saying. ‘Hi, we have just booked our honeymoon with yourselves and are so excited to stay in your beautiful country. I know that we have only booked a garden view room but we would really appreciate it if we could be placed in a sea view room if there are any available. Thanks and we very much look forward to our stay’
Most honeymooners get free upgrades if there are rooms available so you just need to make sure that the hotel is aware, at the least I imagine that you will get a fruit basket/bottle of wine or something.
