I am going to visit SO in DC in a week (he is there for a month for work) and I am 99% sure that he doesn’t have a ring and that his plan is to propose at Christmas. So I am trying to completely put the idea of it happening before Christmas out of my head. I’m so sure he isn’t proposing that I’m not painting my nails! Don’t get me wrong, it’s going to be a fun trip and I can’t wait to see him but it sucks to know I will be disappointed. I hope you get your ring soon!

I’m waiting but my SO doesn’t even have a ring or have a date so Im in a bit of a different waiting spot than you are but I can try to comment on things I’ve done. To distract I try to get in touch with my spirituality. I’m Christian. I also like hanging out with my friends. Maybe take a short trip with your girlfriends so you can distract yourself, he will miss you and have time to plan the proposal. Also I love dance so I like to take dance classes and go salsa dancing.

I’m having so many ups and downs with waiting especially since I don’t know when and I don’t know if it will happen by the end of the year but I truly hope it does. It’s a tough place to be and obsessing is so easy to do. Try to keep busy doing the things you love as much as you can

I could not distract myself. AND i knew when it was going to happen. Just part of the process! And just FYI- once the proposal distraction ends, the wedding distraction begins and it’s even worse, because you don’t feel silly planning your wedding once that ring is on your finger. BEWARE!!!

OH- but the thing that worked the most for me at this time last year was starting my christmas shopping.

@Quackadoo:  thanks! He hasn’t given much of a timeline because he knows that I will figure out his plan and he REALLY wants to surprise me. We are going to Texas so I can meet his family in December so I think right around that trip there is a high probability of a proposal. What Halloween decorations are you making?

@Quackadoo:  I agree when you are waiting it is pretty much the only thing on your mind 😉 I think it would be possible that he would pop the question before the trip because he knows I am pretty sick of being introduced as the girlfriend. I’m 34 and he is 43-I feel too old to be a girlfriend. Guess I just have to wait and see! Just talked to him and he is going to the mall today, I hope he checks out the jewelry stores while he is there 🙂

Your decorations sound great, I will have to check out the ghoul on Pinterest. I think I will decorate a little, my kids are 5 and 7 so I think they would like it if we did something. We always carve jack o lanterns but maybe this year will will do more. Have fun decorating, I love Halloween!

I’m in the same situation as biochic so my suggestions may or may not be useful. For me what helps is to really focus on myself. Not kind of focus, but really, really focus on me – what things did i want to do before I met my SO, what would I like to do if it were just me and not us, etc. After awhile it became natural and now I care less about the whole thing which somehow makes him care more? One thing is for sure – I am much happier when less obsessed!

My SO has the ring and told me he’s proposing in 2012, and last night said he’d be moving in soon after his two week business trip that starts 10/28, and he has always said he’s not moving in until he proposes, soooo…

That being said I distract myself by house hunting, cleaning, and panicing about other asorted things. hahaha Oh, and planning the wedding…does that count?

@LadySmurph:  I’m so jealous that you know that he has the ring 😉 Seriously congrats, sounds like it will be happening very soon-yay!

Thank you 🙂 The suspence is seriously killing me. I ask for details about the ring all the time though because I had no say it it. It drives him nuts; he said he wished he never would’ve let it slip! lol
