- Wedding: May 2015
We think we might have found our venue: a train station.
FI loved trains when he was younger and I actually work in the Rail group of my company, so it seems like a good fit.
My problem now is that I don’t know how to incorporate everything we want into a cohesive theme!
When I first started planning, I didn’t really want to label the wedding with a theme (it’s a wedding, isn’t that enough?) But I have so many ideas, I’m afraid it’s going to end up a disjointed mess!
Here’s what I’m thinking:
-Colors: White, Gray, & Purple (not sure on the shade yet, I originally thought dark, but I’ve seen a lighter shade I like too)
-Elegant/Blingy. I’m planning to get a ballgown with blingy bodice & tiara. Also planning to have some kind of crystal light fixtures (candelabras, chandeliers if we can hang them!) and adding bling to the cake.
-Train/travel. If we use the train station, I feel like we need to have some kind of tie between the wedding and the location (and we love to travel!)
-“Nerdy”. Fiance and I are big into things like Star Wars, Battlestar Gallactica, Harry Potter, video games, & he works as an engineer and loves robotics. Since it’s his big day too, I thought it would be cool to add in some of these things. Like Star Wars cufflinks for the guys, and possibly having an artistic friend paint the bottom of my heels something similar.
-I also was considering, instead of traditional favors, donating to charities that are important to us and maybe putting the info on a magnet (or something similar that would be kept/used) for guests to take home. Charities like World Wildlife Fund, Our local humane society, the National Kidney Foundation, and Donate Life.
The only thing I’ve come up with for even beginning to connect these things is to have our table numbers be platform numbers. Just have the signs say Platform 1, 2.. etc but instead of using 9, having it say Platform 9-3/4. Just a small nod to Harry Potter that not everyone would catch, but we have family we could put at that table that would just LOVE the little detail.
Any ideas are much appreciated!!
