I have a question for all you experienced tempers/charters. I’ve been trying to temp every day at 6:10am (trying to avoid using an adjuster) and have actually been pretty disciplined about it. However, the past few nights I’ve been waking up at like 3am, 4am and then 5am. I’m trying not to move around but I do find myself tossing a turning a bit. What do I do when this happens? Do I go ahead and temp when I wake up, even if its not the right time, or do I still temp at 6:10 and know that the results may be questionable?
Thanks!!!

hafh2016 : When this happens to me, I go back to sleep and temp when I wake up. If my temp is way off, then I just mark it as questionable and make a little note that I woke up at whatever time and went back to sleep. That way it’s marked and not figured into my pattern, but if I’m looking at it later, I have the note to remind me why I marked it that way. Those adjusters really aren’t very good. I’ve found they aren’t accurate for me in the least. If I wake up within an hour of my wake up time and can’t get right back to sleep, I’ll go ahead and temp. But as you go on, you’ll learn what makes a big difference for you and what doesn’t and you’ll work within that. For example, this morning, I woke up at 4:30. I temp at 5:30. I decided to go ahead and go back to sleep. I’ve learned over the last three years of doing this that if I go right back to sleep, it doesn’t affect my temps much. Sure enough, my 5:30 temp was maybe a tenth of a degree higher but still allows me to see the pattern. Unless you’re making big swings in when you’re temping or your body is super super sensitive to every little thing, you’ll still be able to see a pattern even if everything isn’t perfect. Detecting a pattern is all charts are good for. 🙂

Same here! I’ve only been temping for 2 months but I also often wake up 1-3 hours before my usual temp time. I’ve still gotten a clear temp shift/O detection on FF for both months though, so it doesn’t seem to be a big deal. My method has been to temp if its 1 hour before my usual wake up time and wait if its more than 1 hour. I also used opks this month along with charting and it was helpful to have another way to confirm my temps.

If you’re temping 5 out of 7 days you have enough data points for your app.
When I wake up within an hour of my temp time I just do it then. Otherwise I just wait until the normal time.
You also don’t need to be quite as strict as 6:10 each morning. If it’s around 2 hours of that time it’s fine.
ive been temping for years (TTC and natural contraception)

I’ve been temping for years and this happens to me a lot. I have never noticed any huge difference in my temperature and I toss and turn a lot.

It’s not a big deal unless you get up out of bed to go to the bathroom or something. Otherwise, I just take the temp at the normal time.

I just temp at the normal time. The only time I temp earlier is if I wake up at 5am (I temp at 630) and have to go pee. Then I temp before I get up and mark it as questionable!
